Charles Jaeger Obituary

Jaeger, Charles Robert
passed away October 18, 2010 due to complications of old age. He told his caregiver Rosina that "getting old was for the burds." Charles was born in Chicago, Illinois on April 15, 1928 to Charles Marcus & Margaret Lorraine Zinder Jaeger. He had one sibling his younger brother, Donald A. Jaeger. He attended DePaul University in Chicago where he majored in engineering & was a member of the Beta Pi Mu Music fraternity graduating in 1946. He loved playing the trumpet best and also played other instruments. Charles married Patty Barcus and had 5 children. They resided in Niles, Illinois. He joined the Army National Guard Reserve and was a staff Sergeant E5 stationed in El Paso, Texas. He was a member of the 109th Brigade, 698 Gun Battalion. After completing his honorable service in 1952 he moved back to the Chicago area and worked for Motorola. The company moved their offices to Phx & Charles moved his family out west to Scottsdale in 1958. Patty and Charles were divorced years later. Working for Motorola for many years Charles met his second wife, Prudie. Charles then went to work for Michael's Electronics in Scottsdale & retired from Fairchild Industries in 1992. He was proud of his accomplishments. He had been named "Inspector of the Year" by the National Inspector Technologies. Charles love to travel around the country in his truck & camper. He lived in places as Knoxville, Tennessee and Hot Springs, Arkansas. One of his favorite past times was soaking in the hot tubs. Charles spent his summers in Pocatello, Idaho and his winters in Parker. His declining health soon kept him from traveling and he made Parker his home. He loved going to the Parker Senior Center and loved playing BINGO especially if he won the jackpot. He was always proud that he obtained a ripe ol' age and still had his own teeth. Charles was an avid trumpet player and loved to listen to his old records for hours of the big band era. At times he would trap his kids in a room and turn on his big band music. As a father some of the best times were when he would turn off all the lights in the house to play monster. He had long arms and big hands to capture his kids. He loved to go camping and when visiting with his kids he always had a box of cookies and pop to sugar them up. Charles is survived by his 5 little angels here on earth, Patricia Westerman of Henderson, KY., Robert Jaeger of Prescott, Peter Jaeger of Boston, MA., Margaret L. Jaeger of Parker and James Jerome Jaeger of Anthem, AZ., a step-son, Houston Douglas of Arkansas, 12 grandchildren; Mark, Sabrina, Roberta, Kevin, Amy, Alan, Jennifer, Jacob and Kristine, Stevie Douglas currently serving in Afghanistan, Sarah and Samuel Douglas and 11 great-grandchildren. Charles was also known as "Chuck" & "Uncle Bob". He was reunited last year for a Jaeger family reunion with his nieces and nephews from Virginia and Maryland. It was truly a family affair. There will be a celebration of life, Friday, Nov. 12, 2010 at the Parker Senior Center, 115 12th St. Parker 5:00-6:30 pm. It will consist of a military honor ceremony. Charles was an animal lover never being without a pet & is survived by his cat "Ginko" & his scruffy dog "Sammy". A thanks to all who helped Charles keep his dignity & kept him comfortable in his last days. He remained a sweet man and had a dry sense of humor that sometimes surprised everyone. Charles is a Christian and is now in the arms of his beloved Maker starting his new journey into eternal life. God Bless.

Thank you Margaret for this great story about Uncle Bob's life. I'm so happy that John & Diana were able to bring the family from VA & MD last year to see Uncle Bob and our cousins from AZ. It was a very nice visit and everyone had such a great time. Our fathers looked so much alike - same smile, eyes, and hairline. I bet Don is talking to Uncle Bob in heaven.
