Charles Morris Obituary

Morris, Charles David
passed away in the early morning hours of Friday, April 12, 2013 after a remarkable 70 years on earth. Known by friends and family as Butch, Charlie, Chucky or Big Daddy he was unforgettable to all he met. A proud father and loving grandfather, he is survived by his four wonderful daughters, Sheryl Morris Rayner, Kristine Morris, Amanda Jones Morris, and Jennifer Morris, three beautiful grandsons, Dylan Morris, Jacob Rayner and Auryn Tolman, and his wife Darlene. He was born in Lynn, Massachusetts on December 29, 1942 to Charles Gordon Morris and Elsie Ingrid Nyland. His curiosity and love of knowledge developed at a young age and led him to join the Navy at the age of 17 where he served as a jet mechanic on the USS Bonne Homme Richard until his Honorable Discharge in 1965. Never looking back, he landed in Arizona, where he built his family and his career. Rapidly working his way through the construction ranks by employing his electrical, carpentry, and analytical skills his talent and ability was extraordinary. His knack for finding the quickest and most effective way to solve problems and his willingness to help others excel made him renowned. A master of his craft, no job was beneath him. Even though evidence of his work stretches throughout the Southwest, Charlie was best known as a leader of men. He held the kindest of hearts under his gruff and imposing exterior. He was a proud and devoted dad. Loyal, kind, inventive, and curious, he always passed along his wisdom or latest find. An avid reader who was always looking for the next great idea, he never went anywhere without a book in his hand and always shared the latest book series or quote with one of his many friends. His time spent thrift shopping was always with a keen eye for a treasure that someone close to him could use. He loved golf, mainly for the camaraderie. Never worried about getting credit for his generosity or work he moved through the world always striving to make it a better place. He was a one of a kind man whose real legacy lives in all who had the privilege to know him. A celebration of Charlie was held 04/18/2013. Memorial donations can be made to the Arizona Humane Society.

From the first days you entered our family we had such fun together, mowing lawns, bathing the dog, cooking breakfast and trying to beat each other to the "deals" on garage sales. Spending time with family on Mulberry, laughing and playing jokes on everyone----you have continued all these years to be a thoughtful friend. A friend always remembers details about your life and is curious about your cares---Charles always asked about those details.....he was my brother in law but let's just forget the "in law" and say he was one of my sweetest memories in Phoenix. Love, The Bee
