Christopher Oberg Obituary

Oberg, Christopher Zachary
Our precious Christopher Zachary Oberg was born Sept. 4, 1989 in Mesa, AZ and died in a tragic accident March 6, 2010 at age 20. He was a freshman at Arizona State University studying physics and hoped to be a scientist one day. Private First Class Christopher Zachary Oberg joined the Arizona Army National Guard Oct. 2008 and was a Distinguished Honor Graduate from Advanced Individual Training. Chris was a Supply Specialist to HHC 1st Battalion 158th IN, in Mesa Arizona. Chris was raised in Gilbert and lived several years on the beach in Mexico. Chris was the bright blue-eyed baby of the family with a beaming smile and soft blond hair. Our little "Zachy" was sweet spirited, witty, funny, so full of love and full of life. Chris was highly spiritual and a brilliant mind. He was a gifted writer, philosopher and loved science experiments. Chris was the definition of a loyal friend. He loved his family and always showered us with hugs and "I love you". Chris loved music, playing the drums, making movies, snowboarding, camping and the outdoors. He loved animals. He adored his nieces and nephews and enjoyed being their "Uncle Zach". Chris loved hugs and cuddles. He was the most caring, loving and generous spirit. Chris is survived by his mother, Yvonne Crewse; his father, Douglas Oberg; his step-mother, Shelly Oberg; his grandmothers, Paulina Crewse and Isabel Oberg; his sisters, Leeanne Sampson, Hanna (Marc) Hinze and Erin Lowe; his best friend and brother, Ted Oberg; his step-brother, Scott Young; step-sister, Debra Young; his nieces, Emily Sampson, Ashley Sampson and Lia Hinze; his nephews, Andrew Sampson, James Hinze and Ryan Hinze; 7 aunts and uncles; 7 cousins and many dear friends. Chris was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Otho Crewse and Theodore Oberg. A viewing will be held from 6 - 9 pm, Friday, March 12, 2010 at Tempe Mortuary, 405 E. Southern Ave. in Tempe. A Celebration of Life will be held at 9:30 am, Saturday, March 13, 2010 at Tempe Mortuary. Christopher Zachary Oberg will be laid to rest at the Ajo Cemetery Saturday 1:30 pm following the service. We'll love you forever. We'll like you for always. As long as we're living, our baby you'll be.

As I look at the pictures of Zach with some of his family in Colorado this past Christmas Holiday, I was reminded of how much fun we all had doing all sorts of festive things, like eating out, walking around town taking pictures while going into shops, playing in the snow or playing games and watching videos at home. It seemed that we all were having a good time.
I couldn't help but notice Zach's easy going, fresh bright eyed look as he joined in the fun. At times, he seemed at a loss for words, or just watched what was going on, but was still present with his warm big smile and laughter.
His affection towards his dad on the trip was a graceful, positive reminder of how good a relationship can be with a father and his son when they enjoy each others company. This is a bond I believe he shares with his Mom, sisters and brother, Ted.
Zach's smile and spirit was a hopeful breath of fresh air at a time in our lives when things seem so dire. I will truly miss this young man who made a difference in my life and in the lives of so many others.
Blessings to the family and friends, that they may have the strength to carry his memory and spirit with them, of the wonderful person who was Zach.

It is my prayer that through Chris's death many will come to realize that God is in control of all things, our lives and ultimately our death. Chris may have been driving the car, but God was steering him toward Him. I pray that at some point in his life, he came to know the Lord as His personal Saviour, even if it were at the very last minute of his life here on earth. I will miss seeing his sweet smile, and my family will never forget him. Love always, Tammy Nance

I knew Christopher (Chris) in elementary school, San Tan. We used to hang out with our other friends in our little group. I remember going to his house with my cousin and my friends. Swimming in the pool and jumping on the trampoline. He was a great and funny friend. Could always make you laugh. I will miss you. I am so sorry for the family's loss. You all will be in my prayers.
