D. Elaine Costello

Peoria - Elaine Costello (nee Morrow), age 97 of Peoria AZ, formerly from Sun City, AZ and Windsor Locks, CT passed away peacefully on Monday, June 21, 2021 at The Montecito Senior Living in Peoria, AZ. She was born on April 8, 1924 in Paterson, NJ to Samuel and Anna Morrow. Elaine later lived in Hartford, CT and attended Hartford Public High School where she played baseball for 3 years and was known as a slugger. She graduated with Merit from HPHS in 1941. After high school she attended the Hartford Hospital School of Nursing where she graduated in 1945 as a Registered Nurse. Elaine worked as a nurse at Hartford Hospital as well as St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, CT and as a Visiting Nurse. Elaine later attended Central Connecticut State College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1968 and a Master of Science degree in 1972. She taught 6th grade at Union School and later mathematics at the Middle School in Windsor Locks, CT. Elaine married the love of her life, Lawrence (Larry) Costello, in 1944 in Hartford, CT. They were married for 73 years when he preceded her in death in 2017. Elaine had one brother, Charles J. Morrow, of Huntington Beach, CA who preceded her in death in 2018. Elaine is survived by her children Lauren (Daut) Rizvani, of Germantown Hills, IL; Steven Costello of Warrenville, SC; Cheryl (Charles) Pelkey of Windsor Locks, CT; Jay (Gail) Costello of West Hartford, CT; Kim (Dusty) Anderson of Glendale, AZ; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild. Elaine enjoyed traveling and RVing throughout North America and Europe with her husband Larry as well as camping at Hammonasset Beach State Park, CT with family members. A special memory for her was going to Rome and singing for the Pope. Elaine was a Girl Scout leader in Windsor Locks and a sponsor with AFSUSA where she sponsored an exchange student from Indonesia and another from Spain to study in high school in the U.S. After Elaine retired from teaching she and Larry retired to Sun City, AZ. She was a member of the Stock Club there. When not RVing, Elaine enjoyed any time she was able to spend with her children and grandchildren. Additionally, she liked reading and especially doing crossword puzzles. Cremation will be by Science Care Hope Program and a Memorial Service will be held Monday, July 12, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at the All Saints of the Desert Episcopal Church, 9502 W. Hutton Dr., Sun City, AZ. The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice of the Valley and the Montecito Senior Living for their kindness, patience and comfort to Elaine.
