This morning, I woke up with a lump in my chest, unsure why I felt so heavy. I looked around, surrounded by my beautiful family, nestled in a peaceful resort framed by sparkling lakes, golden leaves, and mountains that glistened in the fall light. Everything around me was calm and perfect... yet something in me felt unsettled.

Then it hit me, it's been 21 years since you´ve been gone.

I still can´t believe it. I still hear your laugh. I still remember the ridiculous pranks you used to pull on me, every single one. You knew exactly how gullible I was and took full advantage. The time you convinced me that 26 people were following me on Classmates.com. I can still hear you snort-laughing like it was the funniest thing in the world. And, of course, I fell for it.every. single. time.

You were such a character, full of mischief, charm, and that magnetic humor that made everyone around you smile. You had a way of making life brighter, louder, and funnier just by being in it.

I miss you, my friend. Thank you for all the laughter, the memories, and the joy you brought into my life. Keep watching over us, and if you´re still playing pranks from up there, please go easy on me.

Thinking of you on this Sunday evening. How I realized that I was just talking about you the other day. Talking with my mother, telling her about you. How you were so witty & funny, told her about the time that you punched me so hard in my left arm, giving me the biggest blue bruise. I told her that I thought of you as a brother while I got teary eyed, when I was talking about your witty personality. Oh, how I miss our chats, miss the times you'd point your finger in a gun motion pretending to shoot & overall your laughter. All the years have past but I still have memories of all those crazy moments we had together.... Love you & miss you, my friend!!!

Ten years has gone by.... my friend, you are still truly missed... I found a poem for you:

Although unheard I thank you
For always being there
Even when you were bedridden
You always seemed to care

You meant so much to all of us
you were special and that's no lie
you brightened up the darkest day
and even the greyest sky

Many tears I have seen and cried
They have all poured out like rain
I know that you are happy now
Cause your no longer in pain.

Ten years on I remember you
And what you used to say
You made each of us smile
And live to the fullest each day

They say in time it gets easier
I believe this isn't true
Because even after all this time
I still don't have a clue

I was not ready to say goodbye
Your sudden death just over took
So on this day we remember you
I take a second look

Our friendship is forever
Until death, did we part
Although your away physically
You're always in my heart

With love,
your friend always,
Rachel

I think about my cousin Dan often, as well as his brother David, my Aunt Pat and Uncle Dave. The loss of Danny is one of those holes in your heart that never get filled in by anything else in life. Our lives go on but they are forever changed. I've come to realize that the memories are what we have left to hold in our hearts. I didn't see a lot of Dan as we got older, but when I did he always took me by surprise. He seem so quiet, shy even, but then he would come out with something completely unexpected and leave those in his wake doubled over in laughter. It always seemed you could look into his eyes and see to his soul.

Thanks Danny for touching our lives, you left the world a better place by having been here. You will be forever missed.

My thoughts, prayers and love to your family forever.

My prayers go out to Pat, David, Dave & Annabel. I met Dan at Microchip, he was my trainer for Photo, this is when I got to know this crazy "dork" as he would always call me. There are many memeories of Dan, that I would like to share, but I would have to write a book. A year has gone by, but yet it seems as though it was yesterday that I had just seen him smile. His humor always put a smile on my face. I miss his little jokes one of which he had a computerized picture of me eating a hambuger like a crazy woman and a lion tearing up a zebra, side by side...I also miss the "high-fives" he gave me evertime he would come visit me, the jabs in the arm, that would leave a bruise and that "click-click" he would utter with his hand up in a pretend "gun" position. He was one friend that I went to for advice, like a big brother! There is a poem that is posted up at Microchip and it sums up everything about Dan: "It takes a moment to meet someone special...it takes minutes to appreciate him.....it takes hours to love him.....it takes forever to forget him......Dan you will be missed!!! He will always be in my heart as my dearest friend.

My prayers and thoughts are with the Cartier family. Dan and I worked together several years ago on night shift, at Microchip. My best memories of Dan are sitting, with him, on the Microchip patio swapping our favorite cigars and smoking them. Dan always had a good story to go along with our smoke. I remember looking forward to those breaks in the middle of the night shift. I will always cherish those memories. Looking back now, I surely took them for granted. People say that you should surround yourself by others that have the characteristics you would want to have. People you look up to and have a great deal of respect for. For me, Dan was one of those people.

Dan always had a smile on his face and was one of the few people that could actually make me laugh while he was having fun at my expense. His quick wit and humor will live on in me and all who had the pleasure to experience it. I will never forget him. And, Dan...if you're listening...I stole some of your jokes!

October 20, 2004

My deepest sympathy is extended to Dan's parents,Dave and Pat,brother

Dave, sister-in-law Jennifer, niece and nephews, his beloved Annabelle, family, and admiring friends.

Everyone who knew Dan enjoyed his sense of humor.

I will continue to plant for-get-me nots each spring in memory of our young family members Chris, Carly, Chris, and Dan who left us much too early in life.

Dan's voice is silent, but his spirit and body live on.

Lovingly,

Aunt Rita

I only knew Dan for a few short years but it felt like a lifetime. I heard stories of his dad and the flashlight, niece and nephew stories, the food that went in the trash for Dave's party, Annabelle and how much he loved her, and of course Milo. My prayers go out to his family for their strength in the weeks and months to come. Dan has definitely touch many lives and he will live on in memories for decades to come.

I believe I was in the third grade when I met the Cartier Family. I remember learning to ski with Danny and David, eating in their restaurant and the most enjoyable school years ever. Danny's bright, coy smile will remain in my memory forever. Having just returned from his funeral, I realize that Danny surrounded himself with a pretty awesome crew of friends and family during every stage of his life.
