Diane Marie Smith, 73, died peacefully in her sleep on August 26, 2012 at Hospice of the Valley's Gardiner Home. She was born August 4, 1939 in Green Bay, Wisconsin, to Mabel and Sylvan Ausloos. Diane was brought to Phoenix as an infant by her mother to be near relatives following the death of her father. Both parents predeceased Diane as did her stepfather Burton Burris and brother Burt Burris. Diane is survived by her husband DeWayne Smith of Phoenix, brother Jim Ausloos of Anthem, sister Susan Weber of Phoenix, son Randy Newman of San Diego, daughter Connie Rice of Phoenix, granddaughter Ashley Rice of Phoenix and former husband Ron Newman of Phoenix. Diane was a devoted and loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She dedicated much of her life to helping others and was a natural caregiver. After a variety of employment positions and career paths, Diane began an in-home seamstress business. She had a huge and varied clientele that kept her in business for more than 30 years. She eventually retired to devote herself to quilting. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 31, 2012 at Mount of Olives Lutheran Church, 35th Street and E. Thomas Road.
