Don Cox Obituary

Don L. Cox

In Loving Memory of Don L. Cox November 30, 1941 - February 21, 2021 Don Cox was born November 30, 1941 in Dimmitt, Texas and was the youngest of five children. After losing his father at a young age, his family relocated to Arizona when he was 10 years old. He began his career in the grocery industry as a box boy at the age of 15. In 1962, at the age of 20, he joined Co- Sales Company and held numerous positions throughout the years before becoming Co-Sales eighth President at the age of 34. It was under his leadership that the company established itself as one of the premier food brokerages in the West and in 2010 Don became a Arizona Food Industry Hall of Fame Inductee. Don loved boating, traveling and spending time with family and friends. Don is survived by his wife Trudy and his 5 children, Jerry, Doug, Shannon, Jim, Kristin, and his 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. The family will host a memorial service for family and friends on March 13th at their residence in North Scottsdale. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Hospice of the Valley @hov.org.

I worked with Jerry Cox at the A. J. Bayless store at 27th Avenue and Van Buren for several years as a "sack boy," stocker and cashier.

I went to meet Jerry and met Don over at their house with my dad's green 55 Chevrolet. Don was washing cars out front and for some reason he had some yellow paint. He proceeded to paint two yellow "wings" on my dad's car. I could have beaten the crap out of him, except for the fact that I was only 5' 8" and weighed approximately 119 pounds and, as you know the Cox boys were big guys. FORTUNALY FOR ME THE PAINT WASHED OFF COMPLETELY!!!

Yes, the Cox boys had a little devil in them. I also worked the night shift for Billy or Carol at El Rancho at 35th Avenue and Van Buren stocking groceries.

I am interest in knowing if Jerry is still alive or has he passed also.

May God give your family peace and comfort at this difficult time.
