Ballard, Donald Greg
Donald Greg Ballard, beloved husband, father, brother, and uncle, passed away on January 17, 2016. Greg was born in Tokyo, Japan February 8, 1953. Growing up in a military family, he found himself settling in Phoenix Arizona with his two sisters Mary Ballard and Donna Dundas (Bob). Greg attended Moon Valley High School and received a Bachelors in Chemistry at ASU. He met the love of his life, Maureen, as her scuba instructor in 1977. In true Greg fashion he proposed underwater, leading to two wonderful daughters, Marie and Anne. Greg spent 26 years as a Forensic Scientist with the Phoenix Police Department Crime Lab. After retirement he taught forensic science at Scottsdale Community College. Greg's passions included scuba diving, ham radios, playing the bagpipes, motorcycles, traveling, teaching, studies of science and space, and laughing. Greg was fun, passionate, eternally curious, sincere, honest, and had an infectious zest for life. He was genuinely fun to be around and made Maureen and his girls laugh every day. Greg is also survived by his nieces Angela, Maura, and Sara and nephews, Matthew, Tim, Evan and Aaron. Services will be held at the Irish Cultural Center, located at 1106 North Central Avenue, Sunday the 24th, 2016 at noon. Donations to the Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence (SETI) Institute will continue Greg's legacy of scientific contribution. Donations can be made at http://www.teamseti.org/
