Dorothy Spivey Obituary

Dorothy Eloise Goodman Spivey, 90, of Scottsdale, AZ passed away at her
home on Aug. 3, 2007. The daughter of Preston and Pharmey Brimage Gowens, she was born Dec. 16, 1916 in Chicago, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Ethel Mae Gowens, her husband John Spivey, and daughters Beverly Ann Richardson, and Joslyn Marjorie McGhee. Dorothy was an administrative assistant for over 30 years at the University of Illinois, Professional Campus, College of Nursing., a board member of the African American Multicultural Museum, and a parishioner at St. Patrick's Catholic Community. She is survived by her daughter Kay Ellen (Edward) VanDyke of Scottsdale, sons Preston (Anne) Goodman of Woodlawn Hills, CA, Sidney Goodman of Scottsdale, her first grandson Derek VanDyke of Scottsdale, and 21 other grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and her children's father Lester Goodman of Chicago, IL. Visitation will be Thursday Aug. 9th from 10-11:00 am with an 11:00 am Mass at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Scottsdale. Burial in St. Mary's Cemetery in Evergreen Park, IL. Memorial contributions in her name to: The African American Multicultural Museum, 617 N. Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85257 or St. Patrick's Catholic Community Building Fund, 10815 N 84th St. Scottsdale, AZ 85260.

Sidney, Derek, and the rest of Dorothy's family -
Please accept my deepest condolences. Dorothy was one of the most classy, delightful ladies I've ever met. She is with the Lord now, but I know you will miss her terribly.
