Edward Cassidy Obituary

Cassidy, Edward James
passed away at home on April11, 2014 at age 83. He was born on December 4, 1930 in Butte, Montana to Patrick and Christine Cassidy. When he was just a toddler his family moved to Livingston, Montana where Ed spent his youth playing basketball and enjoying life in the "prettiest little town in Montana". In 1948 Ed joined the U. S. Navy and served four years on the destroyer U.S.S. Benner. In 1956, he and his wife Sylvia moved to Phoenix where he joined the Police Department to begin his career in law enforcement. Here he would raise his family and serve 30 years with the Department, retiring as a Police Major in 1985. While on the Department, he taught police related course's for ten years at Phoenix College. He always made it clear in the fall that there would be no class on the day Notre Dame played USC. Ed stayed in law enforcement after his retirement working as Security Administrator for Intel, Liquor License Division Manager for Arizona Department of liquor, Director of Detention for Maricopa County Sheriffs Office, and External Hearing Officer for Inmate Grievances for MCSO. He also had a consulting firm with Hugh Ennis as well as his own consulting company. He is preceded in death by his parents, Pat and Christine Cassidy, wife Sylvia, sister Joyce Cassidy, brothers Pat Cassidy, John Cassidy and Tim Cassidy. He leaves behind his loving and devoted family, wife Margaret, daughters Debbie Cassidy, Judy (Al) Hoffner, Karen (Dave) Whitehead, son Mike (Barb) Cassidy, step-daughter Susan (Chris) Kuhn, grandchildren Brit Bazzell, Jared (Julie) Bazzell, David (Brandy) Hoffner, Ryan (Julee) Hoffner, Kevin (Kristen) Hoffner, Mike (Nichole) Cassidy, Pat Cassidy, Stephen Kuhn, Taron Kuhn, Katie Cassidy, and great-grandchildren Patrick, Ophelia, Noah, and Oakley. Greetings to Officer Cassidy's family.

I am fortunate to say that over the years as a bank officer I had may friends in law enforcement and most if not all of them what I politely call Street Cops for it was the cop on the beat that first brought me into the fold of law enforcement which eventually found it's way up and into the World Court.

I knew Officer Cassidy and have great respect even at his death on what an outstanding law enforcement officer he was and the respect that he enjoyed from his fellow officers hack in the day.

I have lost several of my Ole Copper Friends lately and it saddens me in one sense but is joyful in another to have known so many like Officer Edward Cassidy and could call him Friend.

May you rest in Peace my Friend and Officer Cassidy we/I shall forever remember you and miss your presence at the same time.

May God Bless your memory and to that of you loving family still present.

Chief Cassidy was a man of integrity and strong moral values. I had the blessings of working with him at the Sheriff's Office. He talked about his family often and they were the joy of his life. He made a difference in so many lives and it was an honor & privilege to know him. He truly is one of the finest people I have ever known. May the LORD be with all of you during this difficult time. The greater the person, the greater the loss. Brenda Wilson
