Dear Kathy& Family
My name is Marisa Mello. I am a friend of Angelas. I did not know your Emily, but I had to write you and tell you how very very sorry I am for your loss. Angela most likely told you I lost my daughter too. Her name is Aliya. When i heard about your daughter I prayed to Aliya and asked her to please be there for Emily, to meet her and tell her she too was Angelas friend. I like to think that the 2 of them have met and have become friends. I wish there were some magic words I could tell you to help you, I wish you never had to experience the tragedy of losing a child. It has been 2 and a half years since i lost my daughter. All i can say, is to take it hour by hour and day by day. I know you probably arent ready to reach out to others. I know I couldnt for the longest time. But I finally joined an online grief group, wanting to talk to other parents who had lost a child. I wanted to know what i was feeling was ok, that others understood and i wasn't alone. No one can truly understand unless they have lost a child. The group of women in the group have become wonderful support for me. If you ever want to talk (or email, you, or any of your family, I am here to listen, to help in any way i can. Your daughter is absolutely beautiful, such a beautiful smile. You can tell how confident and loved she was by just looking at her. People have differnt beliefs, for me I know without a doubt from all the signs Aliya has given to me and her friends that she is still right here by my side. Please believe, she is right there with you. I wish i had a phone number to give you, but I am in Belize now, but if you want to email me anytime, please do.
My sincerest condolences to you and your family and to all those who knew and loved your daughter.

I am so sorry to hear of Emily's illness and passing. I hadn't known she was ill but have now read her father's posts on his internet space. My heart goes out for her family. Emily was in my 6th grade class at Sundance Elementary School in Peoria. I remember well her wonderful personality, cheerfulness, and joyful spirit. She truly was a joy to others and her memory will always bring a smile to my heart.

Words cannot express the sadness I felt when Emily left us. She was always a smiling face. When she was on duty as the receptionist we'd always say goodnight when I left and she would have that contagious smile that just made you feel good. Her passing has touched so many at the hospital. If everyone would smile just half as much as Emily did, the world would be a much better place. Kathy and Robert, we are all here if there is anything you need. Do not hesitate to ask. It will make us feel good to help you during this difficult time.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I've been thinking about Emily on and off since I last saw her at her "New Birthday" Party last September. To see her story in the paper was a surprise and saddened me greatly. She was a great girl and will be missed. God be with your family.

my heart goes out to Emily's family. I went to Highschool with her, but never got a chance to know her very well... although I remember never seeing her without a smile, I'm sure she is in a better place now still smiling down on us. I encourage other La Joya students show their sympathy for the Brightwell family.

I'm so sorry to hear of Emily's passing. I met Emily in my junior year at La Joya Community High School, when Emily was a freshman. We served in the Student Government together.
I remember Emily always being bright and happy, funny and silly. When I think of her, I think of someone who was very colorful; when I knew her she wore a lot of colorful clothing and jewelry. She was so creative and full of life.
It breaks my heart to hear she has passed on, but her memory will always be alive in those of us who remember her and keep her in our hearts.
God bless, and I hope that the family stays strong through this hard time. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Amanda
