Eugene (Gene) P. Schebler

Scottsdale - Eugene Schebler passed way on March 6th with his wife of over 60 years, Joan by his side. Gene passed away peacefully despite his courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born December 28, 1932 to Paul and Emma Schebler, he grew up in Davenport Iowa. Following high school, he married Joan and began active army military service during the Korean War. Following his military discharge in 1956, he moved his wife and two children to Phoenix.

There, Gene began a 33 year career with Arizona Public Service and held various accounting titles. One of his favorite accomplishments was implementing the company's first computerized payroll system that eventually advanced him to becoming the company's Payroll Master.

Gene and Joan were blessed with three more children and Gene became very active with charities associated with the Catholic Church. Gene was profoundly proud of his faith and family. He loved socializing and interacting with people and could always find a way to redirect a conversation that allowed him to talk about his family.

Following his retirement in 1990, he increased his commitment to volunteer work, particularly with St Vincent De Paul, Vista Del Camino, and serving as funeral coordinator at OLPH Catholic Church.

Gene is survived by his wife Joan, his children Lynn Ekstom (Butch), Steven (Anita), Mary Selkirk (John), Greg, and Barbara Schawl. Along with 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Gene will always be remembered by his devotion to his faith, family and friends. Please join us for a Mass celebration at Our Lady of Perpetual Help on Tuesday, March 13 at 10:30 am.
