Eva Hogan Obituary

Hogan, Eva Helen
Eva Helen Hogan went to sleep and woke up in heaven on Tuesday, May 17th, 2016. Although she was 81 years young, her passing was quite unexpected. Eva was born in Forsyth, Montana on November 27th, 1934 to Andrew and Rose Ludwig. Eva was the third oldest of 14 children. She is preceded by the love of her life, Ralph Thomas Hogan and is survived by her daughter Elaine (Jay) Hogan Parkinson and granddaughter Irelan Inoshita. Coming from humble beginnings, she worked in the sugar beet fields of Montana until she left home at 12 to get a job in the city. In 1955, while a waitress in Deer Lodge, MT she met Ralph. They only knew each other a month before they were married. Ralph continued to refer to Eva as his beautiful bride all through his life. In 1961, she was proud to receive an award from the University of Montana for "putting her hubby through college". Eva's daughter Elaine was born on her 30th birthday in San Luis Obispo, CA. In 1966, they were transferred to Tempe, Arizona where the family later created a successful real estate and development company. In addition to work and family she found time to excel at many hobbies, These included growing beautiful roses, sewing, ceramics and running. Eva started running in her late thirties, successfully completing many races including the Fiesta Bowl Marathon and participated in the senior Olympics, she continued running until the day she passed. Eva was a fantastic cook and was known for her pies and German chocolate cake. She was also an avid sports fan; golf, football, baseball, etc. she watched it all. In 1967, the family started regularly attending Arizona State University football games, it was one of her favorite family events. Her family was so important to her. Even though her brothers, sisters, and extended family lived out of state, she spoke of them often and always called or sent cards on their birthday. Eva will be missed so much. We can't imagine this world without her. The energy that Eva put into living life was an inspiration to us all. In lieu of flowers she asked of donations to be directed to the St Mary's Food Bank or AZ Humane Society.

We will miss her early dawn walks and runs; her cheerful greetings; enthusiastic attitude, but most of all - her glow as she listened when we shared good experiences. 18 years after meeting her and Ralph, we feel we knew the best part of their lives in fortunate we were to have them as friends and neighbors.
