Harry Spangler Obituary

Spangler, Harry Sr.
age 93, passed away on December 1, 2014. Harry was born March 12, 1921 in Fayetteville, West Virginia to parents Gilbert and Barbara Spangler. He had 3 brothers (Eugene, Silas, Frank) and 3 sisters (Marie, Grace, Anna Dean). Harry attended West Virginia University where he obtained a degree in Business Administration. He was a starting player on the WVU Mountaineers football team and a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. Harry went on to receive an MBA at New York University (NYU) where he also met his future wife June Hagstrom. Harry and June were married June 10, 1956 in New York City. Harry and June moved to Phoenix in 1965. They were happily married for 51 years until June passed in 2007. Harry and June had 2 wonderful children, Harry Jr and Kim, who survive him. Harry worked for 31 years for the U.S. Public Health Service obtaining the rank of Colonel. He served as a hospital administrator and a finance officer. In 1995 Harry obtained a U.S. Patent for his invention of a "Drop Foot Brace". Harry loved to travel with his wife June. They traveled to all 50 states and over 100 countries. Harry was a member of "The 7 C's Club" which certified he had visited all 7 continents, including Antartica, and had seen all the 7 seas. Harry had many hobbies including astronomy and physics. Harry loved making people laugh by telling jokes and stories. In his final years he became legendary for sending informative e-mails to all his friends. Harry loved his pets, he had many dogs and a few cats over his long life. Harry was a member of Mt Calvary Lutheran Church, West Virginia Alumni Association, Alpha Kappa Psi business fraternity, Vasa (Swedish) Order of America, Arizonans for National Security, Beta Theta Pi National Alumni, U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Officers Association, American Hospitals Association, Federal Hospital Institute Alumni Association. But most of all, Harry was a caring and loving husband and father. Harry will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday December 9 at 6:30 PM at Mt Calvary Lutheran Church, 5105 N 7th Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85013. Donations may be made in Harry's name to Mt Calvary Lutheran Church.

Dear Kim, I know this is a very sad and hard time for you. I know how close you were to your dad and how much you loved him. What a full and acitve life he lived.
