Howard A. "Chief" Wynn

Howard A. (Chief) Wynn, age 91 passed away April 12th in the beautiful White Mountains of Arizona, a land he loved for many years. Howard was born in Pueblo, Colorado on September 30, 1913 to Clarence and Hazel Wynn. He moved to Arizona at the age of two and subsequently attended Tombstone High School and graduated from Arizona State University where he played varsity football for three years. During World War II, Howard enlisted in the Navy and was commissioned. Known as "Chief" by his closest friends, he committed his life to his family and to the education and coaching of High School students throughout the state of Arizona. He received numerous honors and awards over the years for his dedication to his students. This included induction into the Arizona Track Coaches Hall of Fame, Tempe High School Hall of Fame Honorary Member, Tempe High School Booster Club award, Tempe High School Horizon Dedication Class of 1964 award, and the Appreciation Award from the American Legion Post Two in Tempe. Howard is a member of the Tempe Elks Lodge 2251 in Tempe. Howard loved the outdoors and spent much of his life camping, hunting, and fishing in the pines of northeastern Arizona. Howard is survived by his wife Margaret (Marge), his son David of Tempe, stepson Michael Allen of Show Low, three grandsons and one granddaughter. Graveside services will be held at Show Low Cemetery, Saturday, April 16th, at 1:30 pm. Family requests that donations be made to R.T.A. Hospice, 1789 W. Commerce, Lakeside, AZ 85929.
