James Quinn Obituary

Quinn, James Manuel
83, of Glendale, AZ, passed away peacefully at his home on April 3, 2015. He was born to Dan and Mary Quinn on June 24, 1931, in Evansville, IN, and raised on a tobacco farm in Patesville, KY. He served in the US Army from 1948-1952; was a Sergeant and fought in the Korean War. James moved his young family to Phoenix, AZ in 1956 where he worked at the Goodyear Rubber Company. In 1958 he was hired by the City of Phoenix as a trash collector then was promoted to the Parks Dept and became the Superintendent of three municipal golf courses; Encanto, Papago and Maryvale. He also worked part-time as a janitor at St. Vincent de Paul Church/School from 1961-1975. He retired from the City of Phoenix after 31 years in 1989. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. During his prime, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, golf and bowling. In his later years he enjoyed casinos, gardening, watching and listening to Westerns on TV and audio books, but he especially loved the company of his grandchildren and his dogs. James was preceded in death by his loving wife, Imogene, of 62 years as well as one sister and three brothers. He is survived by his six daughters and three sons: Marilyn Heer, Charlotte Sielski (Don), Ramona O'Harra, Donna Schilling (Craig), Denise Brown (Vaughn), James M. II (Danna), Danna, Stanley J (Dellene), Kevin E. (Kelly), and Lisa Penne (Dave). Also surviving him are his precious 22 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, three brothers, three sisters, a large extended family and many friends. Services will be held at St. Helen's Catholic Church, located at 5510 W. Cholla St. Glendale, AZ 85304 on Saturday, April 18th, 2015, at 10:00 am.

I will always remember Jim coming home after working all day and watching us kids play outside. He was a great friend to my parents and the father of my best friend, Lisa Penne. He always had a crazy handle bar mustache. He was a great man and he will be missed!
