Nelson, Janice A.
88, of Surprise, Arizona, died Nov. 30 of complications from Parkinson's disease. She had recently been under the care of Hospice of the Valley. Janice is survived by her beloved husband, Robert Nelson. Janice was predeceased by her parents, George and Rose (nee Rothacher) Schimmelphoenig, of Cleveland, Ohio. Janice was born in Cleveland, where her father's family owned and operated the Lorain Street Lumber Company. Janice graduated from John Marshall High School, and attended Ohio University. Janice bought a new sports car, and then learned how to drive it. Janice was a Red Cross volunteer during World War II, and a volunteer at Fairview Park Hospital in Cleveland. Janice spent her career in Sales Administration for the General Mills Company, Grocery Products Region Office, Cleveland, retiring after 25 years of service. Janice moved to Sun City West, Arizona, in the mid-1980s, with her husband Donald J. Graf, who predeceased her in 1995. Janice loved life, and lived it to the fullest in all respects. She and her husband Bob travelled extensively, crisscrossing the country by car, and cruising the world on ships. Janice loved all animals, particularly dogs. Along with travelling, her hobbies included sewing, cooking, baking extraordinary Christmas cookies, card games, and a good Blackjack hand. In addition to her husband, Robert, Janice leaves to cherish her in memory, as they did her in life, her first cousin, Carol Rose Wisz, of Peninsula, Ohio, and Carol's daughters Cynthia (husband Richard) Brunner, of Alexandria, Virginia, and Lauren (husband Jim) Traer, of Gainesville, Florida. The family invites friends to gather at the Chaparell Winds Assisted Living facility Theater Room, Surprise, Arizona, to remember Janice, on Tuesday, December 7, 2010, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. In ccordance with Janice's wishes, there will be no service, and she will be inurned in the Shimmelphoenig family plot at the Lutheran Cemetery, Cleveland, Ohio, at a later date.
