Jean Norris-Wilhelm Obituary
Jean Norris-Wilhelm, 59, of Mesa, AZ passed away Wednesday, March 24th, 2021. She was born on May 20th,1961 in Glendale, CA to Charles and Shirley Shoemaker. She graduated from Hoover High in 1979. In 1993 she moved to Arizona to attend Arizona State University to pursue a career in teaching. In 1998, she began teaching math in the Chandler Unified School District (Hamilton & Basha High). In 2001, she earned her Masters of Education, Secondary Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Northern Arizona University. In 2008, she received her Masters Degree from Northern Arizona University for Principal Graduate Certification. She held numerous leadership positions at local and state levels which include Math Department Chair at Basha High School, Arizona Education Association Executive Board member, Chandler Education Association vice-president & site representative and in 2012 was nominated for Arizona Education Foundation Teacher of the Year. She had a passion for family, friends, gardening, animals, cooking, playing the piano and dancing. She is survived by her devoted wife, Kathy, daughter, Heather (Brent), mother, Shirley (father Charles preceded in death), sister, Linda (Mike), brother, Willie (Mary Lou), and brother, Don (Roxane). Visitation will be held Monday, March 29, 2021 from 4pm- 8pm at Hansen Desert Hills Mortuary, 6500 E. Bell Rd., Scottsdale, AZ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Alzheimer's Association Desert Southwest Chapter - https://www.alz.org/dsw, Happy Hooves - https://happyhoovesaz.org/ or Hospice of the Valley - https://www.hov.org/donate/. I met Jean a couple years ago as my colleague Jane and I worked on a story about Jean and Kathy and how Alzheimer's had affected their lives. It was a joyful two hours that we spend photographing and interviewing this lovely couple. One of my more memorable times as I meet so many folks in the process of doing my work. On of those days where I enjoyed so much meeting and spending a bit of time with the people we photographed. It was a day that stuck with me long after the photos were turned in. I just heard the news and wanted to express my joy in meeting both of you and my deep sorry in hearing the news that Jean had left us. Jean was a beautiful soul who left light certainly with Jane and me in our brief time together. It was a gift.
