Jeremy Cohen Obituary

Jeremy Cohen passed away on January 15, 2004. He was 48 years old. Jeremy was born in Chicago, Illinois on February 13, 1955. He grew up in Chicago, where he quickly made his mark as a star tennis player on the junior circuit. After graduating from high school in Cleveland, Ohio, Jeremy came to Arizona for the first time to attend Arizona State University on a tennis scholarship. After much success on the college level, Jeremy pursued and achieved his dream of being a professional tennis player. He turned pro in 1977, and played the international circuit for many years. In 1981 he was honored to earn a spot on the United States Maccabiah team, to represent his country at the international Jewish Olympics. The focus, drive and discipline that Jeremy brought to his life as a professional athlete served him well when he opened his own business as a real estate broker. He went on to become one of the most respected members of the Scottsdale business community. He developed and built medical buildings, but what he really built were relationships - with every person he came in contact with. Jeremy was a people person. He was an incredible friend to so many, always available with his heart, his caring and his love. He was a fun and adoring husband to his wife Mimi. He was a proud father to his son Brandon and daughter Jordan. He was a devoted and loving son to his parents Bob and Shiffy Cohen of Tucson. He will be missed deeply by his brothers Avi and David. He will be missed by all of us. As an active member of the Scottsdale Charros, Jeremy donated his time and considerable energies to many causes in the Scottsdale community. He was also a member of the Verde Vaqueros. For sixteen years he was co-chair of the Fiesta Bowl Invitational Tennis Tournament. Jeremy loved his family, loved his friends, loved to ride his horses, loved to walk his dogs. And we loved his smile. Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 18th in Temple Chai Sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his memory to Scottsdale Charros Community Foundation, 4251 N. Brown Ave., Ste. #2, Scottsdale, AZ 85251. Arrangements by Sinai Mortuary.

Brandon,

My dearest friend, I will be here for the end of time if you need me. Never be afraid to call because you don't have to ever be alone during any hard time. I love you with all of my heart...

We want to extend our deepest sympathies to Mimi and Jeremy’s entire family. He was truly a prince among men.

Everyone at our organization who worked with him on leasing the new medical office building at Banner Desert Medical Center admired and respected his business savvy. But moreover, we all enjoyed his winning smile and warm, friendly ways. He will be *greatly* missed by us all.

Jeremy won’t be there in person on “grand opening” day, but he’ll be there in all our hearts – and we’ll always remember the business associate that became our dear friend.

Jeremy was a very important person to me growing up, as both a father figure and friend. He started being my tennis coach when I was around 10 years old and coached me until I was 18. He came to our house almost every week, and became a family member to us all. We all loved Jeremy deeply. I lost track of him over the years when I moved from Arizona to California; but I have thought about him and his family often , and remember with fondness, all the memories I have of our tennis lessons, talks, and times together. Jeremy always made me smile. The impression he made on my life will never fade.

My heart breaks upon this devestating news. Jeremy was one of the kindest, most generous, and beautiful people I have ever been privileged to know. My heart goes out to those nearest and dearest to him.

Much love and sympathy,

Katie Miller

Jeremy was a very kind and generous friend and colleague. He was always such a pleasure to be around, and was someone you could really trust and depend upon. My fondest memories with him were sharing stories about our children. To see his face light up while talking about his wife and children was so powerful, you could tell the his whole world revolved around them. I have had the pleasure and honor of knowing and working with Jeremy for almost 10 years, and everyone who knew him as I did will miss him dearly. Jeremy worked very hard and achieved a great deal of success during his life, and had a very positive impact upon me, both personally and professionally, and I am very grateful to have known him. To Mimi, Brandon, Jordan, and the rest of Jeremy's family I offer my deepest condolences, and may your strong faith bring you comfort during this difficult time.
