Jerry EtsHokin Obituary

EtsHokin, Jerry
88, of Scottsdale / Chicago passed away peacefully in his sleep November 27, 2016 in Scottsdale, AZ. Beloved husband of Janet EtsHokin (nee Mayer) for 63 years; sister of Rosanne (Krevitt Damore); father of Laurie (Peter) Mychaels, Richard (Connie) Etshokin, and David (Julie) EtsHokin; and grandfather of Aaron Etshokin, Eriika Etshokin, Sara EtsHokin (fiance, Adam Horovitz), Emily EtsHokin (Eytan Azaria), Rachel EtsHokin, Molly Mychaels, and Alex Mychaels. Following his military service in Alaska and long stock and option trading career in Chicago, Jerry was a great appreciator and cultivator of the arts, a voracious reader, and an avid world traveler. He spent the last thirty-four years a devoted grandfather to his seven grandchildren who remember him adoringly for his Disneyland trips, card games, endless interest and support in their lives, and willingness to be silly when presented with a mask or traditional dress during their treasured family travels. Whether reading a wartime novel or watching the stock market tick across his screens, he was always happy to be interrupted by his family, especially if they came bearing onion rings or chocolate cake. He will be remembered for his warmth and light. To his family, he made the world brighter. And the world remains as such after his passing. A celebration of life will be planned at a later date. Donations to Hospice of the Valley at 13614 N. 59th Ave, Glendale AZ 85304 are appreciated in lieu of flowers.

I worked with Jerry for years on the CBOE. He was a great trader full of integrity, the key word in our business. We also recently lost Ernie Naiditsch, a great friend of Jerrys. He was a good man with a great smile and spectacular sense of humor. I'm still at the CBOE- and we will have a minute of silence in his honor

So sorry to hear about Jerry, but we have many memories together. We loved playing bridge with him and Janet. It was so much fun. I don't remember whose turn it was next for us to go out for dinner because we all forgot. Thanks for the memories.

I did not see Jerry often, but he always made me feel so welcome with his huge smile, quick wit, and warm hug. It was always clear that his family meant more to him than anything. Truly a gentleman - and a gentle man. I will remember him fondly.
