Joel Sinclaire Obituary
Joel Sinclaire passed away in his home on November 23, 2008. His memory lives on with his wife Doreen, his mother Claire Sisenwein, his brother Adam Sisenwein and with the countless friends who were touched by his good humor, sharp mind, and vast knowledge. In addition to being a true professional and first class attorney, Joel was a ceaseless advocate for positive change. Prior to Joel and Doreen's move to the valley, about eight years ago, Joel practiced law in the Baltimore area for several years. Memorial Services are to be held Sunday, November 30, 2008 at 2 pm at the Mt. Sinai Jewish Cemetery located at 24210 N. 68th Street, Phoenix, AZ 85054. Donations can be made to the Sierra Club, 85 Second St., 2nd Floor, San Francisco, CA 94105-3441, American Jewish World Service, 45 West 36th Street, 11th floor, New York, NY 10018-7904, and Toys for Tots, 3655 S. Wilmot Rd., Tucson, AZ 85370. Arrangements by Sinai Mortuary.

I was friendly with Joel's brother, Adam, and just googled Adam and was saddened to hear that Joel had passed away. I last saw Joel when he was in high school and for a young man, he was a good son and brother and seemed very passionate. It was good to see him involved in politics in Arizona as he was trying to make a difference. My thoughts are with his family.

I am utterly shocked and saddened to just learn of the death of Joel. He was a good friend for many years before he moved to AZ. I will miss him dearly. My sincere condolences to Doreen & his mom.

I never knew Joel personally, but I remember seeing him at Democratic functions, especially on the eve of the 2008 elections. This came as a shock to me as well as to people close to him. My thoughts are with his immediate family.

The best I can say about Joel is that while I did not know him well personally, I knew him through Democratic circles, and I have never seen a campaign improve messaging so quickly nor work so hard in a very tough race. I am sad he has passed but promise I will remember his determination in the future as I seek to make changes in my community. Thank you Joel and God Bless you!

Joel was a very kind and warm person. Even though I have only known him for a short time this year I am glad I was able to have been able to meet someone who will be missed dearly by those who knew him. I met Joel earlier in the year at some busines events and he was more than helpful and outgoing to help me in any way he could. I am thankful and will have him in my prayers. Joel and I met on the University of Baltimore Rowing team in 1983 and had been good friends since then. I was sad to hear of his death and will miss him. My sympathies to Doreen, Claire and Adam. There are no words.

This was a real shock to me. I have met and discussed business strategies with Joel since I first met him back in March of 2008. I honesty believe Joel would have been a great help to the overall Arizona community. His keen insite on current issues and knowledge on how to make a better community will be greatly missed. It has been my pleasure over the last two years to know Joel. I first met Joel at Arizona Executives and later would meet on a weekly basis in the same job strategy team as Keith, Jayne, Granville, John, and George. Joel always offered such helpful advice during our sessions and more specifically, his hand is quite frankly, all over the final draft of my job resume.
I last saw Joel on the morning of Saturday, November 1, 2008 as he was handing out campaign flyers to the attendees of the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Open House. I couldn’t help but think of his dogged determination and resolute spirit in the employment search and how that carried over to his unwavering campaign for Maricopa County Supervisor. He was truly an inspiration to myself as well as to the other members of the job strategy team and we were so proud to see him run for public office.
As I was driving down the road just this week, I saw one of the last of his campaign signs and was reminded of his stanch consistency from our last encounter. Once again I reflected on his quiet, calm, and confident disposition.
My prayers of comfort are with the Sinclaire family and friends during this difficult time. Shalom Joel.

Joel's passing came as quite a shock. I used to see him all over town, promoting his campaign, discussing education issues, relaying his concerns about the County Board of Supervisors, and interacting with everyone he met. He will be missed.

I had met Joel at a networking event and had the opportunity to speak with him on a few occasions.
I was also fortunate to have taken some photos of him near the campaign office.
Unfortunately, I am in New York now and will not be able to be at the services for him.

I spoke with Joel on several occasion, attend one of his campaign meeting in Scottsdale. Produce a campaign DVD for him, he was a sincere person. This is a disturbing news to know that Joel is no more..I still remember his smiles while talking with me about the change he intend to bring to Arizona.

I met Joel as he launched and followed through on his bid for County Supervisor. He always had considerate words on a personal level and meaningful insight on both political and professional levels. I met Joel, maybe about 5 months ago, through Doreen, as I work with her at Fry's. I am still in shock, as I had seen Joel, Doreen, and his Mom, for 1st time, last weekend before his passing. I met Joel my first year of law school. Our lockers were near each other. We've been friends ever since. I laughed at his wedding when he was late and I do mean late. We've kept in touch and kept track of one another. We visited in Annapolis and he and Doreen showed me around when I came out to Arizona to run in the rock and roll half-marathon. I had the pleasure of meeting Joel and seeing him at a weekly meeting of job seekers for several months. My Monday mornings would be brightened by the camaraderie of my team, and Joel was a key influence to many of us.
He always was genuinely interested in others; offering guidance, ideas and support. He had a witty sense of humor, surrounded by warmth and sincerity.
The photo of Joel is such a good one. It captures his spirit. He was committed to several causes, all in the spirit of "doing the right thing" by the people. He is and always will be missed.

I met Joel in 1985 at a Student Bar Association meeting in law school. He made me laugh that night, and things never changed in 23 years. Joel was a good friend and he will be sorely missed in Baltimore. We saw more movies together than I can remember! I met Joel when I had just moved to Phoenix and knew very few people. His friendliness and warmth was so encouraging. It was after we knew each other for several months that we discovered he attended the University of Maryland the same years that I attended the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis. We calculated that we went to some of the same concerts, but laughed of how different our backgrounds were. Meeting him here in Arizona was refreshing and helped to define what a "small world" it really is, and I felt as if we were old college buddies.
Joel was passionate about doing the right thing, and this led to his bid for public office, for which he cherished the opportunity to serve the Public Good.
Joel, you will be sincerely missed by Teresa and I. And, indeed, all who met you are better off for having known you. May God bless you and your family my friend ....

Joel was a principled, ethical, decent man. He always greeted people with a warm smile, engaging conversation, and a positive outlook.
He stood up for what he believed in and conducted himself with integrity and honor. One measure of a man is whether it matters when he is gone and Joel, it matters.
