John Coleman Obituary

John Robert Coleman, Maj., USAF RET., of Sun Lakes, AZ passed away Wed., Nov. 23, 2005 in Chandler. He was 89. Born Dec. 7, 1915 in Brooklyn, NY to John H. and Edna Wicks Coleman, he retired from the Air Force in 1968 after 26 years of service in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. An air traffic controller, he served as a navigator during the war years. His four-year assignments to Berlin and to the Azores near Portugal were highlights of his career. He was a member of the Sun Lakes VFW Post 8053, the Military Officers Association, the AACS Alumni Association, and the Berlin Vets Association. After retiring in Chandler and later in Sun Lakes, he loved to travel and work as a handyman at many intestment properties he owned in the Chandler area. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Stella, who was his devoted caregiver for his last six years; daughter, Nancy Dietze (Manfred A.); grandson, Garrick; as well as 20 nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents; a daughter, Joella; and a brother, George B. Weston. Memorial services will be at 10 am Wed., Dec. 7, at Bueler Mortuary, 14 W. Hulet Dr., Chandler. Interment will be on Mon., Dec. 19, at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Cave Creek. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Heartland Hospice, 1661 E. Camelback Rd., Phoenix 85016 or to a favorite charity.
