John Fink Obituary

Fink, John Albert
95, loving and beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on September 10, 2014, while in the care of Banner Hospice in Sun City West, Arizona. John was born on November 23, 1918, in Calumet, Michigan, to Matt and Mary Fink. He was the third youngest of eleven children. In 1940, he joined the Army and was stationed at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii when Pearl Harbor was attacked. John served the Army in numerous capacities until September 1945. He then studied accounting at the University of Michigan. After college graduation, John worked in public accounting before eventually joining General Motors for a lengthy career spanning twenty-nine years. After retirement, John travelled extensively and later moved to Sun City West. He had a lifelong interest in gardening that produced bountiful vegetables in Michigan and large fruit, including tangerines, grapefruit and lemons, in the desert. John was a caring man who shared his bounty with his family, friends and neighbors without reservation. He was outgoing, generous, kind to all, cheerful and humorous to be around. While in Michigan, John developed an interest in gemstones that he carried to Arizona, and he was a member of the R.H. Johnson Lapidary Club where he produced beautiful stones and jewelry. John was an avid storyteller and could engage listeners with stories about his work, his travels, and his hobbies. A man of great faith, John was deeply involved with his church, Stephen Ministries and the Knights of Columbus. Above all, he was a devoted family man, extremely proud of his two sons and their accomplishments. John was preceded in death by his parents and siblings. He is survived by his wife, Anne, of nearly sixty-nine years. He is also survived by his two sons, Dr. Thomas D. Fink (Cindy) of Colorado, and John R. Fink (Pamela) of Chandler. John is also survived by two granddaughters, Courtney Fink Robinson (Jonathan) of Colorado, and Erin Fink of Pennsylvania, and two great-grandsons, Thomas Robinson and Nathan Robinson of Colorado. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. His memorial mass will be at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Sun City West at 10:00 a.m. on September 17th, 2014. Contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society 4550 E. Bell Rd Ste 126 Phoenix, Arizona 85032. Arrangements entrusted to Camino del Sol Funeral Chapel Sun City West, Arizona.
