Villarreal, John Robert "Johnny V"
Villarreal, John Robert of Tempe passed away Sunday, October, 14, 2012. He was born in Santa Clara, California on February 20, 1969. He moved with his family to Tempe, Arizona in 1973 where he attended Tempe schools and graduated from Marcos de Niza High School in 1987. He later graduated with a degree in Communications from Arizona State University. John was an avid sports fan and from an early age, loved talking and following national as well as local sports. Known as "Johnny V" locally, he worked as an independent reporter and for a period was employed at radio station KTAR covering the local sports teams. He is survived by his parents, Rudy and Mary Ellen Villarreal of Tempe, daughter, Jordan Villarreal, grandmother, Jessie Salgado, brothers, Steve (Anna) and Paul (Demi) Villarreal, sister, Lynn (Martin) Magat and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Visitation will be held at Tempe Mortuary, 405 E. Southern Ave, Tempe, from 5 to 7 pm, Sunday, October 21, 2012. Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1800 E. Libra Dr, Tempe, at 10 am, Monday, October 22.

I am incredibly lucky to have had the pleasure to meet such a great man in my life, i never met anyone like him, my father passed away when i was younger and with those two amazing years of having him in my life he was the closest thing to a father figure that i ever had, and thats what im guna miss the most. He was the light of The Phoenician family we all miss him dearly. John, I will never forget the good times we had,now everytime i pass by your old department i randomly just stand there hoping to see you once more.

John i will always have you and your beloved family in my prayers especially your pride and joy...Jordan.

To the Villarreal Family, thank you for allowing us (The Phoenician Family), attend the visitation and also the funeral. Words can not express how much it means to us.

I am so sorry for your loss. I also knew Johnny when he was living in Flagstaff and working at AZP. He was an amazing person and I was lucky to be around him. He made us smile and laugh on a daily basis! He will be deeply missed. Rest in peace Johnny.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Villarreal family. Johnny V was a great guy that I got to know when I worked for the Phoenix Suns. He was one of the nicest guys to work with in the media and I'm very sorry for your loss.
