Kathleen Hansen Obituary

Kathleen R. Hansen (maiden name: Kehrer). Born: 11/05/1947 Long Island City, NY, Died: 06/28/2007 Glendale, AZ. Survived by: Keith Hansen - Phoenix, AZ (husband); Betty Kiernan-Mesa, AZ (sister); Bill Kehrer - Albuquerque, NM (brother); Parents deceased: Edwin & Harriet Kehrer from New York. Kathy was almost born in a taxi cab during a severe snow storm in Long Island City. She grew up in Queens attending Catholic Grade School, 2 years at St. Barth's High School & 2 years at Mater Christi. Kathy graduated from nursing school in the Bronx in 1968 & had her 1st job at the New York Hospital. Kathy took her vacation in Puerto Rico and decided to quit her nursing job and move there for 2 years. Adventure was Kathy's motto. Kathy moved to Boston for 1 year & then back home to New York. Kathy moved to Albuquerque, NM & worked as a nurse for 7 years before moving to San Francisco for 1 year. Next, Kathy moved to Phoenix & began RN work at St. Lukes Hospital. She went on to work at Phoenix Baptist Hospital in heart surgery & then on to Arrowhead Community Hospital in general surgery. Kathy had an acute pancreatitis attack on May 30th & was admitted to Arrowhead Community Hospital. On the next evening she was on a respirator and receiving dialysis which continued until she passed on June 28th at 10:15 AM with her husband, her friend (Susan) and her supervisor (Sam) at her bedside. Memorial Service/Celebration of Life Event to be held at 5 PM on Sunday, 7/15/07. at the Irish Cultural Center in downtown Phoenix, 1106 N. Central Avenue, Phx, AZ. (www.azirish.org).

I've worked with Kathy for 13 years at Arrowhead Hospital, I will remember her for her laughter.For being there with me when my son was in the hopsital and passed away. For being there when as my world was falling apart. She will be remember always. Thanks for the butterflies, Debra

When I think of Kathy, I can hear her infectious laugh, see her bright smile, her curious personality and abundant quest for what is right and good on our planet.
