Lenore McCartney Obituary

McCartney, Lenore R.
who was known to everyone as Lee, age 95, of Tempe, Arizona, died September 22, 2016. Lee was born on September 4, 1921, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to William T. and Hilda (Haack) Deau. Lee's father was a papermaker and her mother was a homemaker. For a short time the family lived in Camden, New Jersey, but returned to Milwaukee. Lee graduated from Riverside High School in Milwaukee shortly before the start of World War II and went to work for the telephone company in Milwaukee. During the war she worked for the Allen-Bradley Company in Milwaukee, where she operated a comptometer. Lee married the late Major James K. McCartney, AUS, Retired, in October 1942 in Dayton, Ohio. As an Army wife, she accompanied her husband to Badger Ordnance Works in Wisconsin, Lordstown Ordnance Deport in Ohio, Ben Franklin Village in Germany, Letterkenny Ordnance Depot in Pennsylvania, Fort Still in Oklahoma, and after the retirement of Major McCartney, to Tempe, Arizona, where she worked for a short period of time with the Arizona Public Service Company. While in Germany, she helped found one of the first daycare centers in U.S. Army Europe for the care of the children of busy dependent wives. She also helped in the gathering of clothing for orphaned children displaced by World War II. In Pennsylvania, she was involved in the Boy Scouts of America and helped mentally challenged adults at the Samuel L. Dixon State Hospital in Mont Alto, Pennsylvania. Lee was an extremely talented amateur painter and artist as well as a voracious reader, an enthusiastic and skilled player of games on her tablet, and an avid fan of Andre Rieu. Lee is survived by Jeffrey J. McCartney and his wife Teresa, Michael K. McCartney and his wife Marlene Patino, Patricia L. McCartney and her spouse Madlyn Constantino, granddaughter Patricia McCartney and her husband Dino La Monica, granddaughter Melissa McCartney and her husband Jayson Robey, and great-grandson Parker Robey. Services for Lenore will be held at Messinger Mortuary, Pinnacle Peak Rd. in Scottsdale on Wednesday, September 28th at 10AM. Her ashes will be interred beside those of her husband at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix.
