I was priviledged to serve with Chaplin West in the 403rd Combat Support Hospital, for several years. He walked the walk and talked the talk of a Chaplin. He led our hearts and minds down a better path. He was a good man of God and I look forward to meeting him again someday. Bill Butler MSG USA ret.

I first met Micki as a Reserve Army Chaplain. Micki was my Senior Chaplain with the 403rd CSH after Desert Storm. We served together as Chaplains and became friends. Micki loved ministering to the troops. He continued this ministry as a VA Chaplain in Phoenix. When I was in town my wife and I would often visit him at the VA. Micki was always excited to share what was going on with the patients. Micki has now re-deployed to the garrison in heaven where he waits for us who still serve in this combat zone called earth. Thank you, Micki for all your service. Skip

One of my first memories of Chaplain West was when our daughter, Kitty, asked him if all Chaplains had direction names. At the time, Kitty knew of Chaplain South and Chaplain West. Micki, with a straight face, said, "No, only the special ones. Otherwise, they have names like LaMertha (like your dad)." and then he broke out in the biggest smile. Micki always was smiling. I was privileged to see that smile many times, even as he struggled with ALS. Micki's faith and trust in God was so real in his life. It was a privilege to know and serve with him. Heaven has recalled a special soldier now. My thoughts and prayers are with Carol and the family as they navigate the grief path in the days ahead until we all get our recall orders.

Faith and I extend our condolences to Carol
and family. His absence is palpable. He was blessed with a life of service to others, family, community, and country. He battled ALS as he did all challenges with courage and determination. I will always remember his singing hymns in the early desert mornings during the PGW. He was a major factor in the success of the 403rd Combat
Support Hospital during this brief conflict. His friendship is missed but now he is assigned to God's army.
