Paul Elvers Obituary

Paul William Elvers

Paul William Elvers was born on August 16, 1931 in Boelus, NE to John and Elizabeth Elvers.

The Elvers family soon moved to the Omaha area and Paul worked for his Dad as a farmhand until he entered the U.S. Army in 1952. Paul served in Korea as a First Cook until he was discharged in 1954. Dad had a passion for cooking and was always in charge (even into his 80's) when food was involved. He will be remembered as someone who would give you anything he had, if you were fortunate enough to call him family or friend.

Paul was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad as an Electrician Apprentice and later employed by Western Electric/AT&T retiring in Phoenix, AZ as a Supervisor after 33 years. He also worked in Omaha, NE and the Vancouver, WA facilities.

For years Paul served as a Mason and a Shriner. He was raised to the degree of Master Mason at Solomon Lodge No. 10 in Fort Calhoun, NE in May 1957. He joined the Scottish Rite when he moved to Phoenix in 1984 and then the El Zaribah Shrine in 1988 until present.

Paul was a charter member of Paradise Valley Silver Trowel Masonic Lodge, a member of the Royal Order of Jesters, the American Legion and VFW. He was involved in fundraising for the Shriner's Children's Hospitals at many events. Paul was especially dedicated to raising funds for the Shriners Hospital Transportation fund to get children to the hospitals. In 7 years he and his volunteers raised nearly $200,000 from outside sources.

Paul passed away due to Cardiac arrest on April 1, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elizabeth Elvers, his brother Bud Elvers and ex-wife Gwen Elvers. He is survived by his wife, Wanda Elvers, his two sisters, Betty Beers and Mary Jean Stuehm, his son Don Elvers, daughter Laurie McGee and his only grandson Brian McGee.

Paul requested no funeral but there will be a graveside service for the immediate family at the Phoenix Veterans Cemetery in the future.

Dad requested any memorials go to the Shriner's Hospital Transportation fund at 552 N 40th St, Phoenix, AZ 85008, 602.231.0300 or your favorite charity.
