Paul Simmon Obituary

Simmon, Paul C.
Paul C. Simmon 74 passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on April 18. Paul was born on August 8, 1942 in Houston, Texas. His parents, Dr. Vincent Simmon and Gertrude (Fowler) Simmon later moved to Temple, Texas where Paul and his brother, Vince, spent their childhood. The family moved to Man, West Virginia, and Paul graduated from Man High School in 1959. Another move brought him to Toledo, Ohio and the University of Toledo. During his years at the university he held campus leadership positions most notably archon of his fraternity, Pi Kappa Phi and met his future wife, Virginia. He graduated from the University of Toledo in 1964 with a Bachelor's Degree in Science. His love of computers shaped his career. He began as a programmer and ended as a human resources systems executive. A transfer with Honeywell brought Paul and his family to Phoenix in 1980. When he retired, he used technology to enhance church services at Resurrection Lutheran Church. His love of learning led to a doctor of jurisprudence from the College of Law at the University of Toledo in 1976 and a Master of Business Administration from Arizona State University west campus in 1999. He was a member of the Ohio State Bar Association and the Arizona State Bar Association. His interests extended not only to school but also to hobbies. He received a pilot's license, enjoyed scuba diving, and researched genealogy. His greatest loves were God, family, and friends. He and Virginia were married 51 years. He treasured family celebrations and visits with friends. His favorite name was being called Grandpa by his grandsons, Robert and Jack. Paul is survived by his wife, Virginia, daughter, Jennifer Woods (Robert), son, Christopher Simmon (Lisa) and brother Vincent Simmon. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, May 5, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 4930 E Greenway Road, Phoenix AZ.
