Richard Meise Obituary

Meise, Richard G.
After a brave, eight month battle with lung cancer, Richard passed away on December 15, 2013 at the age of 77 in his home in Paradise Valley, surrounded by his loving family. Richard was born on February 20, 1936 in Pittsburgh, PA. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a terrific friend to many. Richard is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; and their children: Richard (Donna), Stephen (Debby), Kelly (Jon), Sandra (Mike) and Tim (Susan); nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He is preceded in death by his father, Gustav Meise and mother, Marie Meise. Richard served in the Army Airborne Infantry in Europe. He is a graduate of Penn State University with an Economics Degree. He spent 20 years at Honeywell Corporation, starting as a computer Salesman and advancing to Senior Vice President. Richard later became CEO of several computer corporations. Richard and Nancy pursued many interests including: boating and waterskiing, tennis, family camping and backpacking, horseback riding, scuba diving, golf, and fly fishing… all of which led them to many beautiful places. Through their passions, they developed life-long friendships that brought fulfillment and joy to their lives. Richard has always given back to his community and supported several charitable organizations including the Arizona Heart Association, Arizona Humane Society, and Friends of the Arizona Cancer Center. During his 20 year active membership at Paradise Valley Country Club, Richard volunteered in various capacities…he served on the Board for three years and was on the Golf Committee for six years. He and Nancy also chaired the Entertainment Committee for three years. A celebration of Richard's life will be held at Paradise Valley Country Club on Friday, December 20, 2013 at 10am. I remember the exact moment I met Dick and his lovely wife, Nancy. It was the morning I arrived at their beautiful house to give them a ride to the airport for their golfing trip to Ireland. My wife and I were going to house sit for them to take care of their beautiful shepherd, Donner. I suggested to Dick that I drive them, so they wouldn't have to leave their car at the airport. He agreed... along the way, he asked me what I did for a living. I told him that I had graduated from ASU prior to joining the Navy to fly jets, but that I wanted to pursue a career in the corporate world. My problem was that I had no experience. Within 2 minutes of talking to him, Dick said "see me when I get back into town. We could use someone like you". I'll never forget his kindness and generosity. I joined his company in October and 2 months later, at the company Christmas party, my wife and I were seated at his and Nancy's table along with the CFO and Senior VP of Sales and their wives. I couldn't even have imagined such a thing for a kid entering the corporate workforce. I'll never forget Dick and will be thankful to him as long as I live. A truly great man and mentor.

A mover and shaker and a standup guy. Helped Alloy Computer Products buy my company Earth Computer Technologies, Inc 25 years ago. There's a sale or a deal being made in heaven right now by Dick. Thanks for being part of my journey.

It was Dick who brought my husband Raymond Lee to Convergent Technologies where we met. They had worked at Honeywell for many years together. I handled Dick's stock options. Ray is gone too. I hope they are reacquainted and having a few pops together as they used to do so often. My condolences to Nancy and their family.
