Richard Zieman Obituary

Richard J. "Dick" Zieman, 82, of Sun City, Arizona died March 7, 2007 in Sun City. He was born on February 4, 1925, in Chicago, Illinois, to Fred Zieman and Lydia Peters. Dick joined the Army Air Forces when he was only 18. He was deployed during WWII as a pilot. Shortly after the war ended, Dick began attending the University of Illinois. The Korean War then began, and Dick was deployed overseas yet again as a pilot. He earned numerous medals for his military service. When he returned to Illinois, he married Barbara Carey (deceased) in 1952. He sold insurance, before entering the banking field. Dick graduated from the School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin in 1961. He became vice-president, and a trust officer, of the McHenry State Bank in Illinois. He was on the board of Woodstock Hospital, and the zoning committee of McHenry. He and his second wife of nearly 34 years, Dolores, moved to Fort Collins, Colorado in 1980, where he worked at the Commerce and Poudre Valley Banks. When he retired in 1992, he volunteered as a court bailiff, and was president of his HOA. Dick and Dolores moved to Sun City in 1994. Dick was a Mason for 47 years, and became a Shriner. During his earlier years he enjoyed hunting, fishing, downhill skiing and golfing. He loved to fly airplanes, and owned several planes throughout his life. Dick traveled extensively. He was really good with his hands, and enjoyed restoring cars, woodworking, and even made his own kayak. He is survived by his wife, Dolores, and his children from his first marriage, John C. Zieman "Chris", of Scotts Moor, FL, and Jane Zieman-Salmon, of Fort Collins. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Robert Zieman, and sister Shirley Oliver. A service was held in Sun City on March 9th. He was cremated and his ashes will be scattered over Lake Geneva, in Wisconsin. Dick was loved very much, and will be dearly missed.
