Robert Hicks Obituary

Robert "Bobby" Allen Hicks

Mesa - On January 1, 2021, Heaven became a bit more rowdy. Robert "Bobby" Allen Hicks of Mesa, Arizona, left our lives just as he lived it: feisty and on his own terms.

He was born in Lewistown, Pennsylvania on December 28, 1941. While his childhood was filled with challenges, his adulthood was filled with unforgettable memories. Bob joined the Army Airborne Division and was jumping out of airplanes after forging his birth certificate at the age of 16. After the military, Bob worked as a builder and later was a chef for several years at the Rainbow restaurant in Johnstown, NY. He headed west in the 1970's and found great success in business thanks to his never-ending hard work, constant drive for more and natural leadership whether you wanted him to lead or not. He was the owner of Septembers Bar and Grill in Mesa, AZ and former owner of Bob and Jo's Concrete having built many homes in Scottsdale, Fountain Hills and Mesa area. Bob was tough as nails and smart as smart. He was one of the hardest working and charismatic men you could know.

He was a husband, dad, grandpa, pop, Gpa, GGpa and friend to many. Bobby reunites with his wife, JoAnn, after 14 years of marriage. Surviving daughters include; Wendy (Duke) Hicks, Julie (TJ) Weatherwalks, Stephanie Drake, Tammy Wermager. Surviving sons include; Robert (Diana) Hicks Jr., Duane Hicks, Rodd (Rachel) Hicks, Allen Hicks. He also has several surviving grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A Celebration of his Life will be filled with laughter, stories, a couple cold ones and a few tears in his honor. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for you to donate to the COPDFoundation.org.

Bobby, (or boss if I wanted the day off)

You changed my life. I was just a single mom in school that needed a break in life and you gave it to me. Bartending in your bar allowed me finacial freedom and a way to take care of myself and Emma. I write this now as a proud college graduate because of your encouragement and opportunity. Me, Emma and Luis miss you all the time and will never look at another container of pralines or a koi fish the same again. There was no one like you and that gives me peace because the universe couldn’t handle it. Love you.
