Robert Loveridge Obituary

ROBERT G. LOVERIDGE Robert G. Loveridge, 72, of Paradise Valley, AZ, passed away peacefully in the arms of his wife/caregiver, Sue, on Wednesday, August 2, 2006. He was born on May 2, 1934 in Peoria, IL to Frank and Selma (Stenstrom) Loveridge. His brothers Frank and Chuck Loveridge, sister Charlotte (Loveridge) Williams, wife Carol (Feightner) Loveridge, and parents preceded him in death. Bob was a "star" basketball player when he graduated from Tremont High School, in Tremont, IL, in 1952. After receiving a one-time gift of $50 from his parents toward his college education, Bob paid his way through college and graduated from Illinois State (Normal) University in Normal, IL in 1957. After graduation, Bob briefly taught industrial arts and coached in Coal City and Morton, IL, before beginning his career with Field Enterprises/World Book Encyclopedia as a "door to door" salesman. He resigned after 21 years, as a Branch Manager, responsible for running a large sales organization consisting of hundreds of people. Bob was responsible for developing the "Love Letter", a creative idea used to recruit schoolteachers for sales positions. Bob excelled at developing innovative concepts, which enhanced the success of many people. In 1982, Bob bought a small magazine and founded what became an extremely successful publishing company, Sunshine Media, Inc. Sunshine Media published high quality trade magazines for the residential building, restaurant, medical and real estate industries, throughout the U.S. and Canada. Bob's successes stemmed from being self-made and self-motivated. He was known for his generosity, intelligence, loyalty, wry sense of humor and compassion. Bob had the unusual talent of surrounding himself with wonderful and competent people. Due to his genuine concern for others, many who worked with him were motivated to exceed even their own expectations. Bob retired after selling his companies, Sunshine Media and Sunshine Media Printing, Inc., in 2001, as CEO/Chairman of the Board. Bob enjoyed traveling, golfing, fishing, flying (earned his private pilot's license), attending sporting events and concerts, gin rummy, and movies, especially those starring John Wayne. He was also an avid reader of anything related to business, history, sports and biographies. Bob is survived by his wife, Sue (Plummer) Loveridge, Scottsdale, AZ; daughter Hallie, San Francisco, CA; son Matt and wife, Seattle, WA; and son Mark, his wife and two grandchildren of Tucson, AZ. A "Celebration of Life" was held at Valley Presbyterian Church Chapel, 6947 E. McDonald Drive, Paradise Valley, AZ, on Saturday, August 12th. Memorial contributions can be made in his name to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014.

That description of fun-loving and generous really describes Bob perfectly. I know he'd say how much he paced at night when he owned SSM, but overall I'd say Bob didn't "sweat the small stuff." As a previous employee, there couldn't have been a better boss in terms of generosity --- there are so many places that John and I have visited that we never would have had the opportunity to see otherwise. A lot of good times at our crazy lunches, too! And a pleasure knowing Matt and Hallie, who I have always liked very much, and of course, Sue -- an awesome ball of fire!

Bob will be missed by many.

P.S. This is Susan again. I have one more important thing I have to say, and that is, Bob told me once a statement that has inspired me in my whole life, and the statement is, "If you do your job right and treat people well, money will dance in you're back yard". And the truth is, money isn't everything". That was Bob. Thankyou, Peace

Matt, Sue and your'e entire family, I want to wish you my deepest sympathy on the passing of your'e Father and Husband. HE WAS THE BEST!!! I respected him so much!!! I loved working for him. There was nobody like him. Even today I tell everybody that I work with, that if Bob asked me to sell rocks on a beach I would do it in a second.

He was my friend. When I think of him, I Smile, I loved his laugh. He will be in my heart forever. He's only a breath away. Today, I saw a hummingbird and I said "Hi Bob", and will forever. Susan Lavender

We had the extreme pleasure of meeting Bob through through his special daughter Hallie...our dear friend. Meeting him in SF and AZ (and Sue!). He was certainly a generous and "daring" soul - hosting 10+ baseball lovers each yr. the past 2 yrs. at his home for Spring Training. Dinners, lunches, limo rides, card games, music, etc. He wanted to share it all with us and he did so lovingly and generously. For those experiences we are blessed...he meant so much to so many...in so many different ways. His love for his children and Sue was always at the surface and evident. Our hearts go out to them all at this difficult time. He will be missed, but never forgotten. Thanks Bob!!

My name is Sylvia Hendrickson, I started at Sunshine Media in August of '91. I enjoyed working for and knowing Bob, he was such a kind man that was very generous. Bob sponsored my dad to qualify for the Seniors PGA tournament, he also spoiled all of us with lunches and dinners. He was so down to earth, I considered him a friend. After he sold the company, I could pick up the phone at any given time just to say hey and chat, he always welcomed people that use to work for him to call him, it made him feel really good when people remembered him. I am going to miss him a lot, the last time I saw Bob was when he came to my Dad’s services in November. I wish I could talk with Bob one last time and tell him how much I looked up to him, he was a very sweet man that I thought the world of.

Sue our thoughts and prayers go out to you and the family. Bob was one of the most gentle and kind people we have ever known. Know that he will be loved and missed by us forever.
