84, of Phoenix, Arizona passed away on May 9, 2013. Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on August 25, 1928, she had a sweet disposition and compassionate nature that drew people to her. As a single mother in 1956, Shirley (Burkall) Cole married Richard Ireland - a world renowned Psychic and founder of the University of Life Church, where Shirley served. Later in life Shirley worked for the Phoenix Day School for the Deaf, as a bus driver and married Dorrell Christie who she met through a mutual acquaintance. In 2005 Shirley moved to the Beatitudes Campus, where she remained until her passing. Shirley had many friends there, both residents and employees. She was a wonderful mother to her sons, Donald and Mark. She was also very close to her daughter Robin, who preceded her in death. Shirley was a loving grandmother to Steven Ireland, Jason Ireland, Jeremy Ireland, and her grandson Brandon Ireland who preceded her in death. She was also a beloved step-mother to Dean and David Christie, as well as a grandmother and great-grandmother to the Christie children. Shirley is also survived by her sister Beverly Lane. Shirley was a deeply spiritual person who demonstrated her faith through the loving treatment of others. She was also confident in the loving nature of God and the persistence of the soul/spirit after physical death. A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Beatitudes Campus Life Center on Saturday June 8, 2013 at 1:00 PM. Donations may be made to the Beatitudes Campus in lieu of flowers.
