Toby Kornreich Obituary

Toby Radasky Kornreich, age 52, died May 25, 2004 at home in Paradise Valley, Arizona, surrounded by friends and family. Born March 27, 1952 in New Orleans, Louisiana, she was the daughter of Holocaust survivors, Solomon and Frieda Radasky, of blessed memory. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Michael Kornreich, and their children, Leslie, Marley and Jay of Paradise Valley, Arizona; her brother, David Radasky, and his wife Sylvia and their son Marc of Prairie Village, Kansas: her in-laws Jerome and Bunty Kornreich of Boynton Beach, Florida; her sisters-in-law Barbara Weston of Boynton Beach, Florida and Margie Kornreich of Bayside, New York; her niece and nephew Lori and Michael Gurtman of Franklin Lakes, New Jersey and Steven Goldsmith of Boca Raton, Florida; lifetime childhood friends, Julie Schwam Harris, Adele Levy Wormser and Sherry Grossman Berlin from New Orleans, Louisiana; and dear friends from the Phoenix area and throughout the United States. Toby was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, elected to the Who's Who Among Students In American Universities and Colleges, and received a Masters in City Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In the mid-1970's while living in Washington D.C., she was the Public Relations Secretary for Congresswoman Lindy Boggs of New Orleans, then served as a United States Congressional Liaison for the Department of Housing and Urban Development in Arizona, she worked as a lobbyist for the Salt River Project, at which time she helped secure multimillion dollar funding to raise the height of Roosevelt Dam. Then, for Governor Bruce Babbitt, she served as a legislative liaison to the Arizona State Legislature. She was then a longtime Senior Research Analyst for Arizona State University's Morrison Institute for Public Policy. Civically, she has served on the board of Temple Beth Sholom of Chandler and on the Board of the Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix. Toby also was a member of Har Zion Congregation of Scottsdale, AZ. Toby, a nonsmoker, lost her fight against lung cancer. Our family would like to thank all those who have visited and fed us, driven her to chemotherapy and especially prayed for her during the past four and a half years. Without your help, she would not have defied the odds for so long. Toby's courage was an inspiration to all who had the good fortune of knowing her. Services will be held 2:00 pm Friday, May 28, 2004 at Har Zion Congregation, 6140 E. Thunderbird Rd., Scottsdale, AZ. In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be sent to the United States Holocaust Mem-orial Museum, 100 Raoul Wallenberg Place, SW, Washington, D.C. 20024. Arrangements by Sinai Mortuary.

Toby was one of the bravest women I have ever met. Her will to live and her fight to survive this horrible disease never ceased. She ALWAYS had a smile even though at times she was weak and in pain. Whenever I spoke with her, she always beamed when she would talk about her children. She was very very proud of all three of you. I always think about her when times have been tough for me and I will continue to do just that for the rest of my life. She was the best!

I will always remember how fast Toby and Adele talked to each other when they would get together. They always had lots of fun. Toby will be missed but her memory will live in our hearts forever.

We met you and Toby several years ago on our visit to Phoenix at the same time Adele and Johnny were there. We had a wonderful evening in a fabulous art deco restaurant. I felt like I knew Toby before we got there, from Adele of course, and have continued to know her, through Adele, since then.

This is such a tragic loss for all of you. Please know that our deepest sympathies are with you and your family and friends.

I have had the privilege of knowing Toby for the past 8 years through my wonderful friendship with her daughter Marley. I know that she was a beautiful person and achieved so much more in her lifetime than the average person could even dream of achieving. My thoughts and prayers are with all of her friends and family.
