Victor Wilmot Obituary

Victor W. Wilmot, 74, of Scottsdale, AZ., died February 13, 2004. Born in Chicago, Ill., he was a U.S. Army Veteran and served as a correspondent for Pacific Stars and Stripes with the 7th Infantry Division in Korea. Vic enjoyed a distinguished career in journalism and public relations. He headed Vic Wilmot and Associates public relations firm in Chicago, where his clients included Merv Griffin, Jonathan Winters and Erroll Garner. In 1962, he joined Arizona's then-leading advertising agency, Curran-Morton Co., as Director of Public Relations. He became a feature writer for the Arizona Republic and his column, "Vic Wilmot", ranked at or near the top in readership popularity polls. Additionally, he wrote many feature articles, reviews and interviews, as well as making guest appearances on numerous radio and TV shows. He contributed features to national consumer and Trade publications, authored the first national Pro Football column and was a narrative writer for documentary films and radio news. He is survived by daughter, Brooke B. Wilmot and her fiance, Mark A. Silverman, of Boynton Beach, FL., and by his long-time companion, Pat Thompson, of Scottsdale. No services are planned. Vic always was an interesting writer and always a gentleman. I knew him only a little but was impressed by his wit and intellect. It was my loss not to know him better. May you find peace in his memory.
