Haven Walker Obituary

Haven Caspary Walker died suddenly from unknown medical causes on February 3, 2020 in Flagstaff. He was respected and loved by many in Flagstaff and beyond for his energetic, enthusiastic, upbeat, infectious spirit and his many talents. He was a skilled Sarod player, having studied for years under Ali Akbar Khan, affectionately known as Kansab, the late Indian Sarod virtuoso. Haven accompanied Kansab to India on a number of trips and was referred to by him as" my bright light". On two occasions, he played the Sarod as the opening act for the world renowned stringed instrument player, David Lindley. Haven was a masterful artistic designer, artisan and craftsman, specializing in custom wood and tile floors and walls. He was the consummate practical artist. Haven was an accomplished guitarist and played in a number of Flagstaff bands including the Grateful Dead inspired Flag Ship of Fools, Goblin Squirrel, Eaten by Ants, Huck Freely and Cloud River. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved skiing, mountaineering, whitewater rafting and kayaking, mountain biking, skateboarding and fishing. He pursued all activities, whether it was work, recreation, fathering, playing music or socializing with friends with great passion. He lived life to the fullest.

Haven was born January 5, 1973 in Phoenix Arizona, lived in Flagstaff, where he attended Marshall School, from 1980 to 1982, San Francisco and Marin County California from 1983 to 1998 and Flagstaff from 1998 forward. He is survived by his two sons, Dylan, age 18, Mason, age 15, his mother Pina Miller, formerly known as Penne Miller, and his father, Robert L Miller. A tribute memorial for Haven will be held Sunday, March 1, at 2PM at the Orpheum Theater.

I met Haven while attending Presido Jr High school in San Francisco in 1981. He was a good friend of mine for the short time we knew each other. Memories of tripping around the City on our skateboards were some of the best memories of that time of my young life. I miss you Buddy. Love and respect.
