Joán Brakefield

Joán lived in Flagstaff for over 50 years and was a prominent member of the community. She was a friend and mentor to many through her 30+ years working at NAU. Her faith was a big part of her life and she was active in several church communities and prayer groups. She had a strong spirit of generosity and kindness which left an impact on so many in her life. She is survived by her husband, John, and her daughter, Ashley.

I have known Joan since I took the job that she vacated in the NAU History department in 2001. I followed her to the college of Health & Human Services in 2010. She was one of the most upbeat, positive people I have ever known. I miss her.
