Norman Russell Borg, Jr
Born November 20, 1954 in Phoenix Arizona to Norman R. Borg Sr. and Betty Joyce Borg, he was the middle child of 5. He was named after his father; however, he got the nickname of Rusty and was known by that to everyone. During his childhood he found a love for baseball and became a promising starting pitcher for the Red Legs. Attending Coconino High School, a little girl surprised him in life and changed his course in life.
Keeping Flagstaff as his home, he joined NAU and soon after met the love of his life, partner in crime, co-pilot in shenanigans, and welcomed another daughter into his life. He followed in his father's footsteps and devoted 30 years of service to NAU, receiving several recognitions of commitment. He was loved and admired by numerous lifetime friends made at NAU, and he did not miss the yearly tradition of the spring break fishing trip. Daddy was an avid outdoors man, via the Outdoor channel he was constantly watching, he loved grabbing his best fishing buddy and heading to the lake. He would tell you of the BIG ones he caught but put back because he "had too many in the freezer". Through the years he took pride in teaching his daughters and grandchildren how to fish and camp, spending many summers with each of them and leaving them with a lifetime of precious memories. Recently he was helping his oldest grandson to restore his beloved Ol' pickup.
Over the years he became quite handy at home improvements and could always find something in need of fixing, which really meant he couldn't go fishing that day. He had a heart of gold and would give the world to his family, friends, and his dog, Hunter. He will be remembered for his humor, even when he didn't know he was being funny, for his compassion, for his strength, and for the lessons that he taught us through the years. He is our hero and our mentor.
