R. Tucker Obituary

R. Gehl Tucker, Jr.
March 29, 1947 - January 22, 2025
R. Gehl Tucker, Jr., passed away January 22, 2025. Born March 29, 1947 in Decatur, Illinois.
Gehl is predeceased by: father, Ralph Gehl Tucker, Sr.; mother, Anna Marie Tucker (Tabor); sisters, Linda Horve & Kim Sloan; and brother, Robert Tucker. Gehl passed away peacefully in his home in Flagstaff, surrounded by his loving family, after battling metastatic prostate cancer for years.
Gehl held many careers including Junior High School Teacher, carpenter, college Law Professor, and attorney at Law with Hufford, Horstman, Mongini, Parnell, & Tucker, also, recently, Gust Rosenfeld.
Gehl leaves behind his wife, Joan, of twenty-four years, and four adult children who loved him dearly: Sky L. Commanda (Camille), of Flagstaff, Raven B. Commanda (Edward), of Flagstaff, Robin O. Reese (Aaron), of Gilbert, AZ, Charles W. Commanda (Dani), of Flagstaff and, his grandchildren, Dallyn, Mila, Noah, Minoke Makwa, Ryker, Ezra and Emerson.
Gehl lived a joyful, adventure-filled life. He went about loving his work, biking, hiking, and traveling. Gehl served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era and was proud to be a veteran. He will be missed by many friends and family. He loved the family in Decatur: brother-in-laws Steve Horve and William Sloan; nephews Steven Horve (Tina), Jeff Horve (Michelle), Brandon Sloan (Lora), and niece, Kristina Sommers (Mike), as well as their children. He left behind a legacy of love, caring, and verve for life.
A private family funeral arrangement occurred at Norvel Owens Mortuary in Flagstaff on January 25, 2025, which included a Flag ceremony by the VFW to recognize his service. This was followed by cremation. Plans for a celebration of life memorial will be announced at a later date.
The family would like to thank the Northern Arizona Healthcare Oncology Departments of Flagstaff, for all their care and help during this difficult journey.

Gehl and I worked together for 23 years. He was not only my employer but became a family friend and mentor of life. The office is different without his smile, his laughter and voice, his wisecracks and wisdom. He was a beautiful human being and I am grateful to have known him and miss him dearly. My love to Joan and the family always.

My fondest memories of Gehl are having lunch with him sitting at the bar at Cuvee talking about music and concerts. And with his smile you could read the book by it's cover. What a great guy. My condolences to Joan and the rest of your family.

I miss you more every day it seems. You were always so great with the grandkids. You were a great dad and taught me many important life skills and how to be a hard worker. Above all, you always took great care of mom. Thank you for all you have brought to our family. We will see you on the other side.

Deepest condolences to Joan and their children and grandchildren. Gehl was not only my long time law partner but a very close friend. I will cherish the memories and adventures we shared throughout Arizona, the California wine country, the beaches of Mexico, the vineyards of Italy and South Africa, the hills of Tuscany, and our epic African safari. Mostly, I will miss the countless hours we spent in friendship. I feel I have lost a brother. A big embrace to Joan and their children and grandchildren. You all remain forever in my heart.

I´m so sorry to hear of Gehl´s passing. I had the great privilege and enjoyment of working with him in a professional capacity and remember great times going to Diamondback games together. What a terrible loss for the legal profession and the Flagstaff community of a compassionate and uplifting human being.
