Ramona Hicks

Ramona Hicks passed away unexpectedly from natural causes on Tuesday June 8, 2021 in Flagstaff, Arizona at the age of 64.

Ramona was born to Ramona Trevino Olivarez and Jose Duran Olivarez in 1957 in Alamogordo, New Mexico. She grew up and lived in Alamogordo before moving to Flagstaff Arizona in 1986.

She was preceded in death by her father Jose, mother Ramona, brother Mike, brother Brijido and son Rick Flores.

Ramona is survived by her husband, Michael Hicks, of Flagstaff; sister, Martha Hernandez and husband, of Alamogordo; sister, Jenny Dickinson, of Alamogordo; brother, Jose Olivarez, of Alamogordo; granddaughter, Jenna Flores of Seattle; stepdaughter, Erin Hicks of Flagstaff; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Ramona had worked in Flagstaff doing RV Sales, Medical Manufacturing and Real Estate before pursuing her career in Nursing. Ramona had wanted to become a nurse since she was a little girl and was able to achieve her dream later in life. She worked at Flagstaff Medical Center from 2003 to 2009 as a CNA. She received her RN nursing degree in 2009 and continued at FMC until 2015 as RN. Ramona then took a position at the VA Hospital in Prescott in 2015 where she cared for our veterans until her untimely passing. Though caring for patients was her career passion, Ramona always cared tirelessly with every fiber of her being, for her family and friends in any way she possibly could.

Ramona was loved immensely and will forever be remembered by her Family, Friends, Co-workers and Patients.

A bell ringing remembrance service was held for Ramona at the Prescott VA Hospital June 9th where she was remembered and honored by her co-works. And a family church service and rosary were held for her in Alamogordo at the Immaculate Conception Church on Thursday, June 17th.

Ramona's ashes were interred at Prescott National Cemetery on July 6, 2021.

I met Ramona at the VA Prescott AZ in 2019. She was a wonderful coworker and friend. She put her heart and soul into caring for our veterans. She was our guardian angel on night shift and now she is one of God's angels. I will miss her always. My sincere condolences to her husband Mike and all who loved Ramona.
