Alice Bigger Obituary

Alice Joyce Bigger 1926 - 2011 Alice Joyce Bigger was born on May 15, 1926 in Calaveras, California to Leonard Seeger and Erma Apaletea. She passed away on November 23, 2011 in Bakersfield. Alice is preceded in death by her husband, Les; brothers, Leroy and Alan (Bud) Seeger and sister, Mildred Curran. Survivors are her daughters and their husbands, Janice and Rick Valencia and Stacy and Rick Damron; grandchildren and spouses, Derek and Tina Valencia, Ryan and Cindi Valencia, Monica Powell, Leslie and Greg Smith, Carrie and John King, Amanda Valencia, Frank and Jessica Damron; great-grandchildren, Danae, Chelsie, McKenna, Bailey, Autumn, Kylie, Drew, Alyssa, Shelbie, Alyson, Macie, Adyson, Abigail, Emmie and Branson. Mom was a homemaker all her life and day care provider for many years. Children were always a big part of her life. Many children benefited from her care, from nephews, nieces, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and others. She was a very giving person who donated her time to Kern Medical Center Auxiliary, Braille Center, Bakersfield Veteran Memorial, and the needy. When she and Pop retired, they moved to Tehachapi. While there for 12 years, she made many friends. Once again, she gave much of her time to the Newcomers Club, Senior Center, and Tehachapi Auxiliary. After Pop passed away, she moved back to Bakersfield. Mom enjoyed attending the Eastside Senior Center where she looked forward to potlucks and Bunco. Mom loved to cook, sew, crochet, crafts, quilt and loved tending to all her flowers in the garden. She also loved the numerous family summer trips to the beach and camping in the mountains. Her family and friends were always being treated to the things she made or baked. She was the number one fan of her grandchildren and great grandchildren's activities. From sports to recitals, she was always there. Mom will always be remembered by many for the little hats she wore, but most of all, for the kind, compassionate person she was. Mother was the heart and soul of our family and she will be deeply missed. May she find her daughter Marilyn waiting with Pop to welcome her home. Finally she will be at peace. Viewing will be at Hillcrest Mortuary on Thursday December 1, 2011 from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. Services will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Chapel on Friday December 2, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. Hillcrest Memorial Park & Mortuary www.bakersfield.com/obits

How sorry I am to see this yet know as our Mom's have aged this time is inevitable and certainly something we can't control. I feel your deep loss just while anticipating my own Mom's passing. You had a wonderful Mom and I remember the big smile she always had for us when we came & went from the house. What a great person she was. Please know my heartfelt sympathy is with you as you go through the next few weeks, months & years.

I was one of the many children that Alice watched over in her day care. Our families were always close. I am thankful that I ran into her at 34th St. Car Wash just a couple of weeks ago and got to sit and have lunch with her. She will be deeply missed by our entire family.
