Allie Nita "Ables" Hoff

1912 - 2010

Allie Nita "Ables" Hoff 1912 - 2010 Allie Nita "Ables" Hoff and her twin sister, Abbie Neva, were born on May 16, 1912, on a farm in Soper, Oklahoma to Silas and Anna Ables. Altogether, Allie had five sisters. After years on the farm, Allie's father sold the farm and moved his family to Roswell, New Mexico, where in 1918, Anna Ables, Allie's mother, passed away from Tuberculosis. Also, one of Allie's sisters passed away from influenza. Mr. Ables again moved his family back to Soper, OK and around 1920, married Lula Green. Lula had three boys and three girls of her own to add to the family. He then moved them to Memphis, Texas, where he heard about the "streets of gold" in California, and in 1923, the family moved to California where he worked in the oilfields. Later on he moved back to Soper, but wanted to return to California; however, Lula didn't want to go, so he decided to stay in Soper with her and the children. Silas Ables passed away in Paris, Texas around 1940. Allie stayed in California with her sister Lola in 1927, and went to beauty school. She worked as an operator after graduation, and ultimately bought her own beauty shop where she worked from 1942 to 1968 when she retired. In 1951, she married Carl P. Hoff. They were married for 43 years when he passed away in 1993 at the age of 91. She is survived by her niece, Annette Foster of Las Vegas, NV; niece, Lorene Robinson of Clovis, CA; nephew, Harold Naupin of Nampa, ID; nephew, Delbert Shank of Bakersfield, CA.
