ANDREW (AJ) MCWHORTER

Andrew (AJ) McWhorter was born on September 9, 1936 in Lake Village, Ark to William and Lena McWhorter. AJ passed peacefully from this life the morning of October 12, 2021 after being diagnosed with double phenomena from Covid 19, he was 85 at the time of he death.

AJ moved to Shafter in 1952 with his family where he worked on a farm. In 1959 he married the love of his life Dolores Patrick. Soon after he became a truck driver for Kern Valley Packing. In 1975, he opened his own business as a water truck driver. He remained self-employed until he retired in 1991. He turned in is truck for a motorhome where he and Dolores traveled the United States until 2004. They spent their summers in Lee Vining (Camp Azusa), CA and winters in Yuma, AZ and made a lot of great friends along the way.

AJ would be described as a quiet, onery man that loved his family, to work on boats, fishing, gardening, auto racing and motorcycle racing.

Andrew (AJ) is survived by his wife Dolores McWhorter, three children and spouses; David and Lisa McWhorter, Lori Phillips, Lisa and Rick Estes, 12 Grandchildren; Steven and Cherish McWhorter, Cindy Howard, Sherry and Brad Taylor, Michele and Nathan, Waninger, Chynna and Andrew Raymond, Nicolas Phillips, Victoria Estes, Riely Estes, 9 Great grandchildren, Siblings; Gene McWhorter and Ozella Elrod. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents William and Lena McWhorter, Sisters; Una Robinson, Ruth Lee, Dorthy Harmon, Leotta Owens, Katherine Sullivan, Brothers; Cecil McWhorter and James (Don) McWhorter.

Services will be held on Wednesday, October 20th at 11:00 am. Please contact the family for details.
