Archie Cameron Obituary

Archie Kidd Cameron Jan. 7, 1919 - July 1, 2008 Kern River Family Mortuary-Oildale Archie Kidd Cameron died July 1, 2008 due to complications from pneumonia. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 17 years, Louise, and his brothers, William Cameron, Jr. and Joseph Cameron. He is survived by four children from a previous marriage, Janet Levkowicz, Lynn Borsodi, Robert Cameron, Bruce Cameron and his wife, Elaine Erikson; grandchildren, Leah and Rachel Levkowicz; and brother, George Cameron. Born in Taft, California, Archie graduated from Taft High School in 1937, lettering in football, basketball and track, and serving as President of his senior class. He served his country in WWII in the Army Air Corps. In 1946, he graduated from the University of California with a B.S. in Business Administration. Archie spent most of his working life in New Orleans, where he settled and raised a family, including his four kids (two sets of twins). He was a purchasing agent with the Jefferson Parish School Board. After retiring in 1983, he moved to Bakersfield and married Louise Donnel Jussaud, who had been his high school sweetheart. They spent many wonderful summers traveling along the Pacific Coast. Archie led an active life of golf, swimming, bike-riding, and socializing with friends. He loved to relax in his recliner and sip an old-fashioned while observing hummingbirds and kit foxes in his backyard. In the past decade, Archie became internet savvy, using his Web TV to email friends and family. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, he did a superb job as communications coordinator for his children in New Orleans, verifying the safety and whereabouts of everyone, and relaying the information. One year ago, Archie moved into the Rosewood Retirement Community. He happily participated in the many activities and appreciated the warm, caring staff. He enjoyed spending time with friends, old and new. He especially treasured every moment spent with his dear friend, Martha Tout, and her celebrity dog, Buttercup. Archie will be remembered as a sweet, generous man who always put the needs of others ahead of his own. His kind words, genuine smile, and friendly wave will be missed by all. Donations in Archie's memory may be made to Animal Rescue New Orleans, 1219 Coliseum St., New Orleans, LA 70130. A private memorial service will be held in New Orleans at a later date.

Our deepest sympathies to the entire Cameron family, especially my good friend Robert. I am so glad that Robert enjoyed some years reconnecting with his Dad, and got to know his loving wife, Louise. I know it is hard to say 'goodbye' to your last parent. I love the picture of young Archie, it looks like Robert!
Thoughts and prayers for you all...

Dad,

I wish we could have seen each other again before you became ill. It is some consolation to know the last words I spoke to you on the phone were "I love you, Dad" and you responded in kind. You were the best father you could be and will remain in my heart forever.

Your son,

Bobbo

Uncle Archie was so sweet and caring for our father Joe Cameron when Mom suddenly passed away in 2002, being the best brother Dad could ever wish for-he took Dad into his home and helped him through a very difficult time. He was always so interested and caring for others with a great sense of humor. Heaven just welcomed a fun-loving, precious soul. We will miss Uncle Archie. Kevin & Nancy Cameron Dunn

Dad, I met you on our honeymoon and liked you immediately. You seemed to enjoy life and took pleasure in the little things. You also made sure you took care of what was important. I loved your practical side. Whenever I snap string beans, I remember how you showed me a better way to cook them. Archie, your sweet smile will live on in the minds and hearts of all those you touched. Love forever, Elaine.

Thanks, Dad for being a nice guy, a great dad, and teaching me how to make a mean old-fashioned. I promise I will never tell anyone about the eggs you put in your backyard to attract the kit foxes.

Love, Bruce
