Donald Williams Obituary

Donald Eugene Williams was born in the small town of Moweaqua, Illinois to Clarence and Florence Williams on June 4, 1928 and passed away on August 8, 2014, after a brief illness. The family moved to Porterville when Don was in his teens, and after graduatingfrom high school in Porterville, he attended the Elgin Watchmaker's College inIllinois.
Don proved to have an excellent ability as a watchmaker, and this education formed the basis for his lifelong career. His talent as a watchmaker, and later as a certified gemologist, made Don a valued employee of theAmerican Jewelry Co. for 30 years. He specialized in servicing Rolex watches and engraving on precious metals.
After retiring in 1992, Don continued to workfrom home and even developed another creative skill: hand engraving on firearms and knives. A treasured memory was being chosen to engrave an ornate pocketknife presented as a gift to former President Reagan. His expertise was sought after by many of his loyal customers and friends.
Don also had a passionate interest in photography, nature and golf. He was an avid member of the Kern Audubon Society for 20 years. Don's kind and gentle spirit, even temperament, and dry sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him. Don was a devoted husband to his wife Judy, and for the last ten years they were able to take many short, but memorable trips out of town. He is survived by Judy, his loving wifeof 36 years who will forever miss him.
