April 30, 1954 – October 27, 2025
Edwin John Barton, 71, of Cambria, CA (formerly of Watertown, CT) died in Bakersfield. Beloved husband of Glenda Hudson. Loving father of Caroline Barton-Hudson. Kind and funny friend to many.
Preceded in death by brother, Thomas Judd Barton, and parents John Edwin Barton and Carole Springer.
Received B.A. in English at Franklin Pierce College, Masters in English at the University of Toronto, and Ph.D. in English at Vanderbilt University. Professor of English at Bakersfield College, where he served as Chair of the English Department, and also at California State University, Bakersfield.
Cremation was 10/30/2025 at Greenlawn Funeral Home Southwest. A private celebration of life for Ed will take place in Cambria on 11/22/2025. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.

I am so sorry for your loss. I knew Dr. Barton during my time at CSUB. I took a couple of English classes he taught during his time there. I very much enjoyed the Steinbeck class he talked me into taking. I still have all of the books in my mini library from that class. I really enjoyed analyzing Steinbeck´s written word with the help of Dr. Barton.
My sincere condolences to his family and friends.
