Jan. 27, 1929 Sept. 21, 2002
Mom, you were so tired of fighting the ALS and then the lung tumor. All you wanted to do was go home to be with Jesus. Now youre in His presence How awesome that must be.
Esther was born in Indiahoma, Oklahoma in 1929, to Ferol and Ray Powell. She married Don Brown in September of 1947 and moved to Bakersfield. They enjoyed a beautiful marriage of 46 years, when Don went home to be with the Lord in October 1993.
Mom, what a blessing you were to us. You always tried to laugh at the bad times. Everyone loved you. Even after you had trouble communicating, you still had that spark that made everybody smile.
Esther worked at Montgomery Wards for many years, and then did apartment management for several companies.
She is survived by her loving family, her son, Gary Brown; daughter, Gail Key; granddaughters, Melissa Powell and her husband Carl, Jennifer and Bethany Brown; and great-granddaughter, K.D.; her sister, Leila Thurlkill and her husband Roy; and numerous other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Don, her 3 brothers, Glen, Harold and Vernon Powell, and by her favorite son-in-law, George Key.
She loved her Lord and her church family at Panama Baptist, and her many friends. They were a blessing to her, as she was to them.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Panama Baptist Womens Ministry Scholarship Fund.
Memorial services will be held, Monday, Sept. 30, at Panama Baptist Church, 5446 Taft Hwy, 11 a.m. Private interment at Hillcrest.
