EVANGELINA LISA (TORRES) CALDERON

June 6, 1947 – November 27, 2025

Evangelina was born on June 6, 1947 here in Bakersfield, California to Carlos and Esther Torres. She attended Our Lady of Guadalupe School from kindergarten through eighth grade, and she attended East Bakersfield High School. She married Louis Calderon in January 1965, and together they had three daughters.

Vangie worked various jobs such as Central Service known then as San Joaquin Memorial Hospital. She was part of a team that cleaned and sterilized surgical instruments. She later worked in the Accounts Payable department at several companies including Bakers Welding Supply. She eventually retired, but couldn't sit still, so she took a part-time job working in the kitchen at Warren JH for Panama-Buena Vista Union School District because she wanted to do something different than office work, and it allowed her to see some of her grandkids who attended school there. During this whole time, she took care of her family, volunteered at church, and spent countless hours supporting her grandkids' activities whether it was sports, recitals, or Sunday school plays. She also loved to read and travel with her family.

She was predeceased by her parents, Carlos and Esther, her sisters, Marianne and Aurora, grandson, Jordan Domingos, and her best friend, Donna Hollibaugh. She is survived by her husband, Louis, and her daughters and sons-in-law: Angela Domingos, Aundrea & Curtis Hurlock, and Adrienne & Steven Summers. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Special thanks to her granddaughter, Marisa, for the wonderful care she provided to our mom during these past few years.

Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, December 13, 2025 at 10:00am at Grace Assembly of God, 2800 Larson Lane, Bakersfield.
