Evelyn Heriford Obituary
December 1, 1937 – November 13, 2024
It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our mom Evelyn Heriford. She passed away surrounded by family on November 13, 2024 in Bakersfield at the age of 86.
She is survived by her brother Robert Peterson (Pat), her children, Jennifer Clayton (Guy), Julie Heriford (Jill), Steve Heriford (Krisi), Jayne Heriford (Kathy), and Janice Actis. Suzanne and Karen, who started out as coworkers 40 years ago, soon became her fifth and sixth daughters.
She was affectionately known as grams to 7 grandchildren and their spouses and great grams to 11 great grandchildren. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who were very special to her.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years Gilbert, who she missed deeply for the past 20 years. Also by her parents, Bernard and Blanche Peterson, her siblings and their spouses Patt Peterson, Arthur Petersen (Helen), Ben Peterson (Kay), Barbara Arthur (Blaine), Marjorie Scales (Glynn), sister-in-law, Joan Peterson and her nephew Tony Scales.
Our parents met in Coalinga where they both grew up. They were proud of the small town they came from. They continued to attend annual class reunions for many years.
They moved to Bakersfield in 1960 where they raised their 5 children. They lived a full life of family and friends with many trips to the central coast.
Our most cherished childhood memories were our times spent in Cayucos with family and childhood friends. Many of those trips were with their Coalinga Horned Toad Alums; The Yourees and the Kemples.
Our parents loved each other deeply. They were so proud of their children and grandchildren. They loved their friends and considered them family.
Mom will be deeply missed, but we are comforted knowing she is reunited with our dad.
A private graveside service with family was held.
